Domain name registrar - Fastname

Hi all,
I have a .co.uk domain registered with fastname. In 2013 I paid for 10 year registration and I really only use it for the email address so no website is hosted.
About a month ago I couldnt get email so I look it up on nominet and it stated that it expired and was suspended. I emailed fastname and had no response for two weeks. When I did get a response they told me there is no problems and directed me to the whois to show this. It clearly shows that it was updated about the time I first emailed them and again has been registered for 2 years not the remaining 8 I have already paid for.
Are they allowed to do that? I have paid for 10 years of registration but they are renewing every two years (late!) instead. I have had a look at the Nominet Registrar Agreement and I suspect they are not supposed to do this but cant see anything that states this explicitly
The service has been terrible and the fact I want to buy some more domains means I want to move to another registrar to avoid dealing with fastname again. If I move then I assume that the new registrar will see that is registered only for two years not 10 so how do I deal with this?
Anyone recommend a domain name registrar to move to and buy new domains with once I have sorted this?
Thanks,
Emily

I get on well with hover.com as a registrar. If you register for 10 years it should be exactly that and show as such in the whois records. If you still have evidence of purchasing it for 10 years (e.g. an email or invoice) and still get no joy with fastname then you can open a dispute with Nominet who oversee .uk domains.
If you move the domain now then the new registrar will indeed only see as far as it is currently registered which is two years by what you have said.0 -
Raise a dispute with Nominet
http://www.nominet.uk/domains/resolving-uk-domain-disputes-and-complaints/Science isn't exact, it's only confidence within limits.0 -
Thanks guys, I was thinking about raising a dispute with Nominet but couldnt find anything in the documentation that said what they were doing wasnt allowed. I think I will give FastName another day to sort this and then raise a dispute as suggested. I will then be swiftly moving to another registrant.
Thanks very much!LBM: July 09
