Currys Mis - selling

Hope someone can help...

On Saturday (3 days ago) we went to currys to upgrage our LG TV to a bigger one. we were perfectly happy with LG and had the 3D glasses/sound bar/blue ray ect to go with it and we advised the sales rep in the store of this.

He then asked if we would be willing to speak to the SONY rep who was present that day.

we did and ended up purchasing over £1500 worth of stuff, a whole new set up basically of SONY products which we are prefectly happy with. at no point did the rep or the sales man mention that we would need different 3D glasses than the ones we already had ( that they knew about as we had mentioned it)

I emailed know how and got no where as they refered me to SONY. I phoned SONY to be told they they do not employ reps for the stores!!!!!

I then went back to know how who advised they cannot comment as the item was brought in store!! surely they are the same?

all i want is 4 pairs of 3d glasses as they are £49.00 a pair and had we known this we would have gone for an LG tv as we already had the glasses.

so in my mind i have been mis - sold a product.
anybody have any advice on how to proceed as surely its cheaper for currys to swallow the cost ( and their pride) and comp me the glasses rather than me return the set up (minus the boxes as they were thrown away) and them have to give me a refund?

thanks

  • Unless you were specifically told your glasses would work, the cheapest thing for Currys to do is stand their ground and do nothing.

If they told you that LG glasses would work, and they don't... you have a point (good luck proving it though)

If you never asked.. and they never mentioned it.... tough titty I'm afraid

Currys hasn't missold anything - you failed to ask. You knew, just as much as Currys that you had existing glasses. At no point did you ask if the glasses would work with this TV just that you had 3d glasses.

3D glasses, as you now know, come in 2 forms the real 3d (like the cinema ones) and the electronic ones (presumably like the Sony ones). Unless you said to the sales guy "I have these glasses will these work" then you can't hold the store responsible.

With that said, you cant return the items unless they're faulty. Which currys would test in store so as BigBopper said, it's not cheaper for them to give you the glasses.

You went in being aware you had glasses for an LG TV then you walk out with a Sony one, didn't you think to ask that question?

On the + side you can get better Sony compatible glasses on Ebay for a third of the price.

No, it sounds like you mis-bought, unfortunately.

Don't think they'd be happy to "swallow" £196 worth of glasses.

You've thrown the boxes away
and them have to give me a refund?
When you buy in store, there is no automatic right to a refund I'm afraid.

Dont worry OP, Samsung glasses work with Sony TV's as that's what i use on my Sony TV :)

£11.99 each , cheaper on Ebay around £18 for 2x pair you should get 2 pairs of Sony in the box ??

    http://www.currys.co.uk/gbuk/tv-and-home-entertainment/tv-accessories/smart-3d-tv-accessories/samsung-ssg-5100gb-xc-active-3d-glasses-21293306-pdt.html

Maybe try and get those ones for free or a discount :)
  • OK, so i phoned and spoke to the store and they agreed that the Sony person should have told me we would need different glasses. offered to provide me with 2 pairs but then said they were out of stock everywhere in the uk. they then said i could return and swap the tv if we wanted, which we dont as we like the tv. so gave me a £50.00 credit instead to cover the cost of 1 pair at least.

i have now brought some samsung ones - thank you for the tip deanos and hopefully am able to watch my 3D this eve :)

How are they able to carry on selling the TV if the glasses are out of stock everywhere in the UK? I think they were just fobbing you off so that you'd settle for a lesser amount.

Because you don't need 3D glasses to watch TV.

A fair point (probably, I've never watched a 3D TV), but the inability to use the feature that's made it cost far more than a non-3D TV would seem to be an issue that ought to be addressed.
