Recommendations for laminate flooring

After a flood in our house we are still in the process of replacing items. As we previously had a carpet we have taken the money from the insurance company and decided to replace the lounge/diner floor with laminate.

However there are SOOO many to choose from I'm getting lost.

Fancying quickstep, had before and good Quality. Needs to be hard wearing and would prefer it to last rather than be cheap and have to replace soon. Hubby is thinking of fitting himself (very capable).

Anyone recommend any other types of laminate? Seen loads but just lost right now and need to decide asap so we can get back in our home.

Also where's best to buy? Local firm good on some prices but then other bits are expensive, online mixed reviews for most suppliers and restricted returns if too many packs etc.

  • We laid Karndean knight tile in our kitchen and love it. It comes in 3' planks, and looks & feels great. Seems very durable, and their range is huge. Worth a trip to a showroom if you live near one.
  • Stick with the QuickStep. We have the Impressive range (soft oak natural) downstairs and it looks very good.

Balterio is an alternative of similar quality that we considered and might be worth a look.

We have Karndean in our kitchen, inherited from previous owners and I don't like it at all.

We ended up getting the QuickStep supplied by our fitter (so he could offer us the Master Installer fitting guarantee) but his prices were only marginally more than the cheapest I'd found, which was http://www.flooringsupplies.co.uk - they seemed to have some good deals on free underlay when I last looked too.
