Yes its basically a fluid that is supposed to retain and transfer heat better than water or so they say .
Yet to see any prices .
  • The hydromx fluid appears to be mainly ethylene glycol with small amounts of glycerol and triethanolamine.

With ethylene glycol costing around £2 per litre in bulk, and your average heating system needing about 50-100 litres of fluid, I'd imagine retail costs to be in the region of £300-£500 to fill a heating system.

No idea about the heat transfer claims, I was under the impression that ethylene glycol was significantly worse than water.

    Sounds dubious.

Unfortunately their website won't load for me.

Since the fluid in the heating system remains in the property at all times then I would have thought all the energy that goes into heating the fluid will be released into the property regardless of what the fluid is, or what its retention or transfer properties are. So I cannot see how the heat retention properties of the fluid will make much difference.

If some fluids can be heated more efficiently by the boiler than others (so less energy is released in the bolier's exhaust) then I could see why one fluid might be better than another. However I would have thought existing boilers would be optimised for heating water and not some other fluid.
