How to toughen up a white gloss windowsill?

I sanded and painted a bedroom windowsill with two coats of white gloss. Already it is starting to mark a bit if things sit on it for a couple of days. What can I do to make it a bit tougher and resistant to marks?
It is in a teen's bedroom so I can't just say it is out of bounds. Is there a practical solution please?

  • How long ago did you paint it? Gloss can take a while to harden fully.

So you didn't undercoat it after sanding?

  • Gloss these days takes weeks to fully cure and harden, so I'd leave it clear of things for a month to be sure and then see if it behaves better.

Stick a length of upvc white moulding onto it. Then it will become wipe clean.
I can afford anything that I want.

Maybe it does take a bit more time. I did paint it a few weeks ago and thought it would be usable within days after drying.
I didn't use an actual undercoat. It had already been painted and I just lightly sanded it to provide a key for the paint. Then I thought teo coats wood do it.
I am tempted by the idea of the UPVC layer.
