Well cheap. I have been quoted that for labour ONLY for an ensuite shower room and downstairs cloakroom!

    Get some more quotes.
You are providing all the ceramic ware, tiles, taps, and expensive bits.

There is a fair bit of tiling to do its achievable in the two week time frame for one competent fitter and at that rate your paying £2500 a week for that (presuming a 1k spend on materials his end which seems very generous.

You may be better off splitting the jobs by trade as it could bring price down and give you a better job but more work your end.

We had a decent fitter do our bathroom last year and I think we paid £180 a day and he was here 4 days. We cut a day off by using plastic waterproof laminate in the bathroom instead of tiles.
Your job is bigger but that price seems high.
  • Im just going through the process.

The bathroom I have chosen comes to just under £10,000 without fitting.

I'm hoping the fitting wont be too much. Im expecting around £2,500. Is that unrealistic?

Depends where you are. I've found that fitting quotes are at least double what I would expect.

What are you expecting for that?

    Tiling?

When you get high end bathrooms, you tend to go beyond first and second fix and can easily go three or four fixes for the plumber.
Everything that is supposed to be in heaven is already here on earth.

Ten grands worth of stuff wont get fitted for £2500.

We usually fit £1000 worth of stuff and charge around 5k labour for 10 days.

Average bathroom is a 2 week job really, for two guys taking their time. You will most probably get prices in excess of 5k labour.

I just had a quote for all labour and materials except tiles for 15k, about had a heart attack! Managed to tighten that to 13.5, but still a lot more than I was expecting! This is for a fairly large wetroom with partly lowered ceilings etc. so pretty complex. the bits (furniture and sanitary ware) were 3000, the rest is all installation and the materials for that (10k inc vat). I have worked with these guys before and I know they'll do a great job so I have gone for it, but damn. So I don't find your installation all that expensive.

Only thing I'm thinking about still is if I am paying that much for the installation, should I go a bit more high end on my sanitary ware? The stuff is good, but not high end. On the other hand I'd increase my costs again....

That is a ridiculous statement. The value of the material should be irrelevant to the cost of fitting. Yes, a little more care may be needed. But why should a £500 tap say cost more to fit than a £50 tap?

Your comment is what gets the construction industry a bad reputation. Price the labour not what the value of the materials may be. Unless you are suggesting someone who can afford a more expensive item should be charged more for fitting than it is really does cost?
