What are my consumer rights regarding returning my laptop to John Lewis?
I purchased my laptop in June last year and it has been working on and off up until now where programs and applications simply do not open or work. It's high a specification and it is all very sudden so there must be something wrong. At the time of purchase it came with a two year guarantee so I do have just under a year left. Am I within my rights to exchange my laptop for a another one, even if that means paying more for a higher spec, rather than getting it fixed as I don't really want to have the same problems again in the future, If my only option is to get it fixed then I suppose that it's better than nothing.
Trivial I know, but thanks in advance for any suggestions.

It may well be a software issue rather than anything wrong with the laptop.
Exact model please as just lenovo isn't very helpful, also what version of windows is it ? 10 or 8.1.Science isn't exact, it's only confidence within limits.0 -

A few words missing. No rights to return. If it's faulty, they have to repair it or replace or refund some or all of the money you paid - at their discretion.0

FWIW - I bought a Lenovo laptop from John Lewis. It stopped working after 18 months.
They tried to get it repaired but couldn't, so let me pick a brand new laptop from their range instead. (The new one had to be equivalent spec, but it was cheaper - because prices had fallen over 18 months. I didn't ask about paying extra for a better spec.)
To be fair, they messed me about for 6 or 7 weeks, so there may have been an element of a goodwill gesture in letting me pick a new one.
But as others have said, OP's problem sounds like software.0 -
Just do a Factory Restore (after backing up your data of course). Then, if it's running W8, update free of charge to W10.
And no, they won't replace it with a new one just because of a software error-you cannot seriously expect that to happen? No free lunch, and no free laptop0
