Electric shower advice

Hello

I am replacing a 8kw electric shower that stopped working and was pretty rubbish to start with.

Wondering how much I need to spend as I want to keep costs down, without buying something cheap that is not very good.

I was looking at the Aqualisa 10.8kw and Mira Sport 10.8kw ones. I have had a quote from an electrician to upgrade the cable etc. Then I saw this as was wondering whether I really needed to spend £200 to get a decent electric shower.

I am not too fussy about how it looks as I won't be having a luxury bathroom but just want it upgrading from the old one which was a bit too weak. I am also in a hard water area so need one that is reasonable easy to clean and remove limescale etc as far as possible.

Thanks for your advice. I have about £500 to spend including fitting and have been quoted £250 for fitting the shower, new cable and two lights but I supply the lights and shower. I will probably also be getting the extractor fan replaced as it is noisy (there is no window) but the electrician hasn't got a price on that yet -it is in an awkward position right above the shower because that is where the vent to the outside runs from. He said he won't charge me for fitting a new one but obviously just the cost of the fan.

I've just seen a review for a similar one. Could be a one-off fault but you need to check it out:

Looks like a DIY installation - so no idea how competent the person who installed it was.

OP: Maybe you should ask the person who's going to install it if they have any recommendations. Also, look at other options. For example, the Mira Jump shower is quite a lot cheaper than the Mira Sport, and there are Triton models for as little as £70.
Let's settle this like gentlemen: armed with heavy sticks

And you're Peter Duncan; I gave you fair warning

Yes, or it could be entirely false.

You / he will need to check which zone the fan is in as right above the shower you may need a SELV (safety extra low voltage) fan.

OK thanks. The electrician who came to quote said he is struggling to find one that will fit that space at the moment. I'll do a bit of online searching.

Mira Jump is a good option, especially if in a hard water area, it has an anti scale device built into like some of their more expensive options, and phased shutdown, meaning it flushes the hot water out of the tank when you turn it off to help prevent limescale build up as well, and seeing as lime scale is what usually kills most electric showers its definitely worth spending a bit more on one of these than the cheap and cheerful showers

Thanks for the advice. I noticed the Mira Jump was quite a bit cheaper than the Mira Sport, so this might be a good option for me. I think I will go for a Mira or Aqualisa shower for around £120-150 as my previous one was probably about £70 and was in the flat when I bought it so I put up with it.

It is a hard water area and I do want one that has a good shower head (easy to clean) as well as one that tries to prevent limescale build-up. I'll have a look at the Jump.

Haven't found a fitter yet but am gathering quotes. Decided not to do it in a rush as I can manage without for a few more weeks or months.

Hi I bought the Mira Sport in the sale and had it fitted today.

Unfortunately I just tried it and the water comes out scalding hot or cold, and nothing in between, no matter what I do with the dial!! They must have fitted it incorrectly?!! So upset. I haven't phoned them back yet but will do. What could cause this?
