Balanced Flue Gas Fires

Hi,
We have a 10 year old balanced flue gas fire but the fan unit has broken and the part is no longer available.
We need to get a new fire but we're happy with the surround, with the fake coals etc, is there a way to just fit a new gas fire part without buying all the stainless steel that comes with it?
Cheers

You need to look at the makkers sticker on the fire. (Normally on the bottom). This will give you the model and manufacturer plus a 'GC' number. Goigle the manufacturer and call their technical dept. They will be able to tell you the direct replacement model.Eat vegetables and fear no creditors, rather than eat duck and hide.0

If you had a fan unit on the fire, then it was a power flued fire rather than a balanced flued fire. Both of them come as a complete unit, so you would be swapping the whole fire, for a new complete fire.
You wont need to swap the whole fireplace, you can just swap the fire.
Look at balanced flued gas fires. They are near enough silent running, very efficient and wont let the cold in like the fan assisted fire did.. You will find most manufacturers don't make fan assiited fires anymore, they were very prone to problems and a lot sounded like a motor boat when the fan was running.0 -
Cheers,
I'm waiting to hear from Magiglo on the alternate fire.
Our plumber told me it was a balanced flue fire already, how can I tell?0 -
If it is balanced flue, then it will be glass fronted and have a tubular steel pipe coming out the wall outside approx 5'' diameter with venting on the outside of it.
If it is Fan flued, then it will be open fronted, and have a steel squarish box on the outside wall. You would have had to start the fan before lighting the fire, the fire wouldnt work without this being done.
Why are you waiting for a response from Magiglo? They wont replace it for you if it is that old, they will offer you an alternate fire which will be more expensive than other makes. Shop around for a new fire, but as already stated, you wont be able to keep all the steel work, you will get new stuff with your new fire.0
