Japan to London - cheap flights booked from UK - help please :)

Hi

I understand booking flights are cheaper from the country of departure, and I know about some sites available such as ctrip for China, allowing you to book flights from the UK (China as departure + Chinese website = cheaper). Does anyone know of a similar website or way to book Japanese flights? We are in the UK at the moment but will be traveling next year, and need to do a return trip to the UK in June (London preferred but any UK would be fine if it helped get the price down).

Many thanks for your help in advance!

booking flights are not necessarily cheaper booking from country of departure. Flight prices tend to operate differently in different markets. Prices tend to be dictated by the country you commence your journey and which country you purchase your ticket
This may be simply due to lower fare classes being sold out in some countries but still available in others
UK-Japan-UK will be priced in £s
Japan-UK-Japan will be priced in Yen

Are you looking for a one-way flight from Japan or a return going from the UK and returning

You can search on ITAMatrix or Google Flights for various options

Alternatively you may wish to look at starting your journey from outside the UK and making a separate booking (and possible accommodation) for business class+ this can give some great savings but for economy, by the time you factor in the other costs, probably not so much

Avoid third party agents that you may get directed through via Kayak/skyscanner - at a very minimum go onto TripAdvisor and check the reviews....you will find many do not use live prices so manage to get your interest and your money before telling you that the fare is sold out and you need to pay more...or wait x days/weeks/months to get your money back
  • Hi

Thanks for the reply. Sorry I meant by departure as purchase location yes. Supposedly that is why ctrip works, through redirecting as though in China.

I am looking for a return flight, starting in Japan, so Just Japan-UK-Japan I am looking for (coming home for a week and then returning). We don't want to wait until we are there as it will be very late to get a good deal.

Thanks for the ITAMatrix will take a look.

If you or anyone else might know of a website for Japan, that like others might 'trick' the IP address, I have heard that can be a good place to look!

    Thanks again

It is worth noting that in ITA Matrix you can select the POS (Point of Sale) so you can see how the fares differ if purchased in UK v's purchased in Japan (or via a Japanese site)

You could use a VPN service to mask or change your IP so you can search the Japanese sites.
