Adding radiator to system - cost?

Just wondering if anyone had any experience of this and could let me know what they paid?

Every room in the house besides the back bed room has a radiator. The back bedroom is my room and it's absolutely perishing in winter.

There's 5 radiators in the house and the boiler is a vaillant eco tech 24.

I currently have a plug in oil filled heater from Argos but I can't afford to run it as it eats the electricity (as expected).

So wondering how much it would set me back to have a radiator fitted.

And advice appreciated. I'm utterly clueless. Not even sure if I ned a plumber or a gas engineer or both!

Thanks!
Sigless

you've got to try and figure out why there isn't a radiator in there already if there has been a full system installed previously.... that's where (potentially) the money will go

The house was my mothers before she passed away. The system was fitted for free as she was disabled. But the max was 5 radiators and she chose not to have one in the back room. There's small radiators in the hall and bathroom. Two large ones in the living room and one large one in the front bedroom.

I don't know wether 5 was the max the system could handle or 5 was the max that the offer allowed. And should she have wanted more she could have paid extra etc.

The boiler is new though. It was replaced with the Vaillant combi around 15 month ago.

  • A new radiator and valves shouldn't be too expensive. The labour cost and the amount of copper pipe you need really depends on the way the existing pipework runs and how easy it is to extend the pipework into the bedroom. You also need to consider the disruption - removing carpets, lifting floorboards etc. I'd guess its about a days work and would estimate you'd be looking at around £300-350 all in, maybe more if the plumber is VAT registered, if the job is straightforward.

Really the only way you're going to get an accurate price is to get some quotes from local plumbers. You might be able to save a bit of money if you supply the radiator and valves yourself - I recommend looking at Screwfix's Kudos radiators and either Drayton or Danfoss valves.

    Thanks.

I'll call around and get some quotes.

I had already had a look at radiators on screw fix and b&q.

I know the pipes run passed the back bedroom to get to the front bedroom as I remember the entire landings our boards being taken up. But I've no idea wether they'd be able to run the needed pipe work off those.

If so its literally three feet of pipe work needed.

But obviously I've no idea if this will be possible.

Was just asking so I could get an extremely rough idea.

    Best get saving!
