Powerline adaptor + 2nd router?

Moved into a solidly built 1960s house. Every wall is breeze block. We had Virgin Media installed and were provided with one of their Super Hub 2 units which sits at the front of the house.
Hubby has converted the old detached garage down the side of the house into a gym, and the signal doesn't seem to quite reach there, so we've experimented with three different wireless boosters. Different brands, different styles. They've all failed us for one reason or another and been sent back. The signal strength isn't strong enough to stream music, or another device within the house can't connect (Something to do with IP, I think, but I'm not techy enough to understand).
Today, I've bought Netgear Powerline adaptors, in the hope of sorting the problem. However, it looks like they need a hardwired device to plug into. Since hubby uses an iPad for streaming, that's still not a great solution, so I wondered if it was worth buying a second cable router (Not modem, I understand they're different things), and plugging that into the powerline socket nearest the garage wall. I'd like to think that this will create a second wifi network which he can use to stream. Would that work?

The Powerline adaptors will get you wired internet anywhere as you just plug them in.
You can get standalone access points that you can plug into a homeplug and then the iPad connects to the access point which sends it to your Superhub over the powerline. If you get the access point you don't need another router.0 -
You can also get powerline adapters that have built in wifi.0

Yes, you need something like this.....TPLink PLA Wifi Adapter kit
I'm not recommending that one particularly, but, there's a short video explaining how it works on that page as well.Drinking Rum before 10am makes you

RR, wouldn't the OP be better off getting a dual band 5ghz Wifi home plug ?
I think this is 2.4ghz only.Science isn't exact, it's only confidence within limits.0 -
You are right (), I was trying to keep the cost down, but, a dual band would be the better option. That is if the equipment they want to connect is also dual band, obviously....Fightsback wrote: »RR, wouldn't the OP be better off getting a dual band 5ghz Wifi home plug ?
