It's not all about the self-employed.Chris Stephens MP @ChrisStephens 2 hrs2 hours ago Treasury confirm in written ans. 221k adults and 47k couples under the age of 25 receive tax credits. Will be watered down I think. The Tories are getting awfully twitchy. It all seems so stupid it makes me want to give up.
But why should I give up, when it all seems so stupid ?0 -

Yes, more seats than before, more votes than before, Labour heading towards meltdown and schism while flip-flopping over every issue, yes the Conservatives must be quaking in their boots.I am not a financial adviser and neither do I play one on television. I might occasionally give bad advice but at least it's free.
Like all religions, the Faith of the Invisible Pink Unicorns is based upon both logic and faith. We have faith that they are pink; we logically know that they are invisible because we can't see them.0 -

Twitchy about the policy. Not the next General Election. House of Lords is thinking about calling a 'fatal motion' to stop it. The Tories don't have a majority there. The House of Lords is set to reject George Osborne’s cuts to tax credits after a crossbench peer vowed to use a legislative “nuclear option” in a debate next Monday if the chancellor does not withdraw his contentious proposals.
Baroness Meacher said she would put forward a “fatal motion”, which if supported by a majority in the upper chamber, would annul the reforms passed last month by the House of Commons. It all seems so stupid it makes me want to give up.

Actually this was something discussed not too long back by a panel on the TV around the time of the tory conference.
It seemed blatantly obvious to all that the majority in the tory party were against cuts at these levels.
Some commented that Osbourne and Cameron would rather be forced to change the policy rather than face the humility of saying they got it wrong. That way, they cannot be blamed for their plans being scuppered. They cannot be blamed when, again, their forecasts are not met. Afterall, they had a plan.
Maybe this is what they are looking for? Certainly get's them off the hook and they don't lose their core support over it either, afterall, they didn't U-turn.0 -
Maiden speech by Conservative Heidi Allen describing Osborne as "out of touch" and "betraying who we are".

perhaps Heidi is planning ahead and wants to beat Jeremy's record and rebel against the whips more than he, so is staring young0 -
Watching the news tonight it appears that if the house of lords do put a motion together to block the planned tax credit cuts, the conservatives will suspend the house of lords.
Not often I get the emoticons out, but
After suspending the house of lords, they will send a load more conservative lords in in order that such a motion against tory plans does not come to fruition in the future.
Well that's one was of sorting out discontent I guess!0 -

C'mon, this is all about Tory party leadership with Call Me Boris taking a swipe at Osbourne and Heidi saying she wants to be in team Boris. All the Tories support reducing tax credits but it is about positioning oneself as a potential election winner come the party leadership race.I think....0 -

You seriously believe that?
The leadership is some years away yet, and this suggests you treat tory party MPs with utter contempt, suggesting everything they say or do is based on their own personal gain.0
