I have just watched Rip Off Britain dealing with your details being put together and fraud
One of the things that came up was that fraudsters can even switch on your web cam remotely. Last week one day I noticed that my web cam light was on whilst using my laptop
I can't even remember what I need to do to switch it on. At the time I think I clicked and took a photo which is now in my pictures.
Do you think I have accidentally switched it on. I noted the light and then the sign in my task bar I then closed it down without thinking any more of it.
Now I am left wondering if this has got a more sinister reason.
Another problem this am is that the Norton has got an orange cross on it. When I open the web site it is telling me that everything is order. I did a quick scan anyway.
I would appreciate any advice you can give me Many thanks Sue

If you took a picture with your webcam, then it was you (or the software you used for it) who switched on the camera. As soon as you close that program, the light should have gone off.0 -

No it was windows 7. I noted that the web camera light was on then I saw a picture of me which it took I think I closed it down.
I still can't find how to switch the camera on. Unless there is a very simple way I would not have switched it on.
I have never used the web cam or used Skype etc. Just a mystery but have just seen the article on TV this am which made me wonder? Thanks for your advice Sue0 -

there is probably a program on your taskbar relating to the camera, which may enable snapshotsDon't you dare criticise what you cannot understand0 -

Hi Susan1942,
Sorry for the inconvenience. May I know the name/version of Norton program you have? Also, could you let me know the message you see when you open Norton? I could help you with it.
Thanks!
