Tesco Lost/Found

Found a gold & diamond engagement ring in Tesco premises. When asked what their lost/found procedure was I was met with a shrug of the shoulders & given one of their on-line customer service satisfaction questionnaire card thingys!

I refused to leave the ring & made the assistant agree to put my name/number on their office notice board in case anyone came in to ask if it had been found.

Discovered later that it could have been noted by customer services (in the massive nearby Tesco - 15 paces away from the small Tesco place I found it) so went there to find that although they do note it & take the property, if it is not claimed they send it to Tesco Head Office. They have NO facility to take my name/number or to advise me at any point what is happening with it, couldn't/wouldn't even give me a receipt.

Why on earth would I let Tesco have it if the owner does not claim it? In the end I sent a brief letter to our local paper, gave rough area location but no description other than 'ring' & said I'd taken it to the local Police station. If it's not claimed in 4 weeks I'm entitled to have it, if I don't collect it within 2 weeks from then the Police auction it.

I don't want the person to know who I am or any sort of reward/thanks, I want the owner to have the best chance of getting it back. That doesn't include seeing it disappear down a Tesco black hole.

Tesco 0/10. It's not just the odd hat, scarf, glove, specs that might be lost in Tesco. Rant over.
Seen it all, done it all, can't remember most of it.

Thanks, great idea.......done. Added a link to here so they may look at a fuller picture of what happened, not that I think they'll bother.

Perhaps they'll have liked my letter in the local paper when I called them 'unhelpful'.

sure i read before about someone finding £100 odd and handing it in to CS and leaving their details for if it is not claimed then they were either go back and get it to bring to the police and then claim it if not claimed after the 30 odd days.

They went back to CS and they said it has been donated to charity which was the charity of Tescos choice. Dont agree with their policy at all

I think there was a thread about this a while back...and I'm with you. If it's not claimed (after giving rightful owner every opportunity to claim, of course) then it should be up to the finder who can keep/donate as he/she prefers.
