Unlinking financially from someone

My credit file is currently linked to the soon to be ex-Mrs MadMat by our joint current account

Do I need to completely close this account to kill the link? or would getting her to sign the paperwork to have her name taken off be good enough?

I'd prefer not to close the account if I don't have to as it's the one that has all my direct debits on and it'd be a PITA setting them all up again!

Can't answer your question exactly but I had a joint account with my Ex and after we split the account was closed. Although the account remained on my file for 6 years the financial link was gone quite quickly.

While the accounts open as it stands the financial link will remain if you where to change it from a joint account to a current account in your name (Don't know if you can do that I assume so but they may have to close the account and open another) Then there would no longer be a financial link.

Basically while both your names are on the account there is a link once they are not there is no longer a link.

Your bank will be able to move all your direct debits for you if you have to open another account.

Hope this helps. I'm sure someone more knowledgeable will be able to give you a better answer!

    Hi

Once you no longer have a financial association through a joint debt you can file a ‘notice of disassociation’ with the credit reference agency if the association still shows.

I think you need to do this with each of the credit reference agencies. Experian have some information on it here:
