IS credits

Do IS credits count towards IB?.

Comments

  • No, you have to have PAID National Insurance Contributions for at least the appropriate two years to receive IB.

Imagine someone holding forth on biology whose only knowledge of the subject is the Book of British Birds, and you have a rough idea of what it feels like to read Richard Dawkins on theology: Terry Eagleton
  • But because I'm claiming IS due to illness and I recieve a N.I. credit weekly, so I don't know whether or not I can claim IB or credits. You don't have to pay to recieve IB.

You do not receive incapacity credits with your IS claim, but with your IB claim. Because you are only getting IS, this means that you did not satisfy the contribution conditions for IB.
IB is a contributory benefit which means you have to have paid enough National Insurance contributions in relevant tax years to qualify.
These incapacity credits awarded to you now, may be used if you need to make a new IB claim in the future.
  • That's a great help, thanks :)
