Fitting trickle vents

hi
Can anyone please advise how easy it is to install trickle vents into upvc windows.
Do i need to have the glazing unit removed before i drill the holes.
I have seen them for around £5 each but was quoted £45 by installer to fit
If it was easy enough would prefer to do myself as money is tight and cant justify £180 for £20 worth of goods.
Thanks Sam

I just had one fitted on our downstairs shower room. The people who fitted our new front door had to come back to look at a leaking glazing unit and they did it for me while they were here. Charged me £20 for it including the price of the vent. But they were here already so its not like they had the additional cost of coming out to do the job.
£45 seems quite steep but I'd expect it to cost less if you're getting more than one window done.
You can do it yourself if you're a competent DIYer and there are guides online but personally I didn't want to risk damaging my windows so I decided not to do mine myself.0
