Drought

Anyone else experiencing a competition drought - experiencing my worst ever comping year - the whole year has been one long dry spell with a couple of miniscule wins. Cannot decide whether to plod on or give it up for a while. Sorry for the moan!

Oops DynasticDux in the old days we used to post about non wins on this thread too just to even out the goalposts!
  • I am only back into comping after a 6 month or so break but as off yet still to have a win!! I go through stages of thinking about giving up but they don't last and my comping mojo tends to pick up fairly quickly at the though of that winning email, phonecall, letter!! I think I have heard quite a few people saying that this year has been their slowest yet!!

What I do wonder and have found is the level of negativity and sometimes sheer rudeness on this forum is awful, I have always enjoyed the interaction of this forum almost as much as the entering of the comps, the shared excitement and anticipation used to really spur me on if I became bit fed up of the lack of wins!! However it seems to me that you are shot down for daring to look at a comp post nowadays God forbid you should have a question, be that a repeated question a valid question or even a moan...It is a forum as far as I'm aware forums are around for people to interact on!!

What I find hilarious is generally the people that roll their eye's, quick to say things have been repeated or in the wrong place (in a impolite, sarcastic manner) and act like they set up this comping forum!! (Seriously the hirachy in the walking dead is less brutal!! :rotfl:) are really the ones that need to go and take a break and revalue how much MSE effects their life as they have forgotten the whole point of what they like to loudly preach...comping is meant to be FUN!! :T

I'm not one to put too much thought into any mumbo jumbo..I think you create your own good luck by working hard ie entering and putting the hours into comping. However if I was to believe in positive thinking creating good luck I would seriously considering how luck people could be having surrounded with so much negativity and criticism!!

I agree with all the above, and it is usually the people that do win a lot that are rude and nasty.

If it was them that didn't win for like months or even years, would they be so quick to criticise, roll their eyes and put down the people that dare to moan now and then.

    I very much doubt it.

I very rarely comment on posts anymore due to this

I'm on a comping drought too, mine started in April this year, I think perhaps there are less comps but more people are entering? keeping the faith but have massively cut back as I'm feeling 'what's the point'?
    Win Totals 2013 £3331 / 2014 £4815 / 2015 £3067 / 2016 £5617 / 2017-2023 £4106 / 2024 £2500 OVER £23K!!

It's been pretty dire here too tbh, I've had 9 wins in the whole of 2015 (of which 3 have been in the past fortnight!) - 4 months have been totally dry, and most others I've had one very small win. My biggest win all year was worth £80, the majority of the others have been £10 or under. I don't think I enter any fewer competitions than previously, I still get through around 500 a week, I just think that more people are entering them so the prizes are more thinly spread. Should you stick at it? Well, if you don't enter comps any more then you definitely won't win anything. But if it's becoming a chore rather than something you enjoy doing, I guess you could take a short break and then see how you feel.
