Hi thank you for your reply.
When it says statute barred how would i know if this is the case ?
Is there any length of time for this or would it depend on certain reasons ?eg Bank loan, finace ect ?

A simple contact debt would be statute barred after 6 years of no payment or acknowledgement by you, or 12 years on something like a shortfall on a secured mortgage.

Main point is that you deny any knowledge of the debt, but as you know it couldn't be less than 16 years old even on the outside chance it was yours, then the 2nd half of the letter makes that point. To kill it off in one go basically, should it be something you have forgotten.

Robbers way, are a "specialist" (there own description) debt collection agency, who basically buy up tens of thousands of old delinquent debts, which are either statute barred, have no paperwork, or are deficient in some other way.

They then attempt to trace the last known address of the "alleged" debtor, in order to make them cough up, these accounts have already been written off by the original creditor, many years ago in a lot of cases, they then attempt to get back the full value from people like your good self.

If this ever was your account, now to be honest, is beside the point, as after 16 years it will be statute barred, and the letter templates already provided should be enough to see them off.
Don't be tempted to Ring them, or get into any protracted dealings with them, keep it all in writing, and do not answer the phone to them.

  • I'd ignore. They are helpless in this situation, why take the bait?
    £1000 Emergency fund No90 £1000/1000
    LBM 28/1/15 total debt - [STRIKE]£23,410[/STRIKE] 24/3/16 total debt - £7,298

  • I have come on to MSE today after I too had a letter from Robinson Way asking me to confirm my current address I called them as I hadn't heard of the company and they asked me to answer some security questions such as my DOB etc.

As I had never heard of the company before and they wouldn't tell me who they were unless I answered the questions, I told them that I would call them back once I had looked into them.

I googled the phone number on the letter and found this Forum.

Since finding out they are a debt recovery agency, I have completed a credit check on myself and found I have no outstanding debts, so I have no idea what they are chasing for. I have in the past had a poor credit score but this was all resolved almost 15 years ago

I will ignore this letter as it appears, as you say that they are fishing.:T

    Gemma,
If you get another letter, this time with details of any debt they say you owe, then you must not ignore it, the provit letter would be the way to go.
You can risk a CCJ by default if you ignore a specific request for payment of a debt.
