What does this mean? "one or more domain controllers do not meet the licensing..."

We have a small network. Server running Windows SBS 2003. Some of the workstations are running Win 2k Pro. One of these came up with the following message:
"one or more domain controllers do not meet the licensing requirements.please contact your administrator"

What does this mean?

Well, the computer hung. Rebooted it and now it gets as far as saying "applying system settings" then appears to hang there.
  • most windows servers come with (i think) a standard 5 license agreement. are you sure u have set the correct amount of client pcs to connect to the server.

How many workstations do you have, and how many CALs does your server have?

We've got 15 CALs but only 6PCs + networked printer + server. So that's not the issue. Seems like it was a server problem. I got the same problem on my PC, running XP pro - i.e. "applying computer settings " then goes no further. Then found I couldn't get into "Server Mangement" on the server. Tried to initiate a server shut down and it hung. So after 20mins of no action I had to turn it off. Restarted and so far no problems. Seem to be back in. Curious.
