Water damaged artex ceiling

Following a leak in the water pump for my shower yesterday, I have a damaged ceiling in the dining room below. The artex ceiling (which I believe probably contains asbestos) now has a hole of about 40cm diameter and also a bulge in the artex of similar size if not bigger. The leak has been dealt with but I'm trying to work out whether or not to go down the insurance route to claim for the ceiling. A friend has suggested that it may be possible to board over the existing ceiling which presumably wouldn't be all that expensive and may be worth me paying for myself, taking into consideration my policy excess and the increase in subsequent insurances policies I would then have to pay. To me this seems to involve drilling in the ceiling which would disturb the ceiling...or does the whole ceiling worth of artex need removing as it is now damaged? The room is approx 5m x 3x in size. I've only owned the house since December and its my first house so I'm very new to all of this - any advice please?

The question you should be asking yourself is do you want to keep the Artex, we have recently boarded all of our ceilings and had them re plastered because we got fed up with the Artex.
The ceiling should be about £300/£4000 -

I suppose my question is - is it safe to do that if it contains asbestos? Thanks0 -
