Laminate Worktop lost it's shine

Hi there,
I'm hoping someone can help. As part of my moneysavingexpert routine instead of paying someone to come and clean out the oven, I used one of the DIY packs where you put the racks in a bag/paint the solution on the oven.

The results were great, but at some point I have got the solution onto the laminate worktop counter and there's a patch where the shine or top layer of varnish has come off.

Does anyone have any suggestions please for what I can use to restore the shine please?

Thanking you in advance!

Search for cosmetic repair companies such as the magic man. They can refinish your tops . Cost can be as much as new tops without labour costs

    ouch!!!

pity they are not wood or you could sand down/varnish again easily...
  • I would be over the moon if my glossy dark worktops lost their shine all over, shows every mark imaginable unless you buff it dry after wiping... worst thing I ever bought as my dear wife keeps reminding 'me'.

My wife did that as well.

She also used a brillo pad to clean a wire rack, also on the worktop, that took the shine off as well.

We are getting a new kitchen fitted next week, brillo pads and wire wool are now banned from even being bought, as are harsh cleaners such as above mentioned oven cleaners.

All utensil holders are being changed to plastic, metal and china ones also take the shine off worktops as they scrape across them.

Same with china cups but she is promising to use worktop protectors.

The kettle is to be moved to another area of the worktop where there is no join and also not underneath a wall cabinet. The hinges end up getting rusty.

No more hanging wet dishtowels from handles, even although we have a towel rail.
over 73 but not over the hill.
