if the terms of the scheme are good, then she should take advantage. only you can determine whether you ought to fund the investment.. and as others have said, addressing the debts ought to be a priority.0

i have no idea who the debts are owed to as they have been sold on and a different letterhead appears every few months or so. i cant even get her a free noddle credit report since u need a credit card and she hasnt one.
Going back to owing the money - if i knew for sure exactly how much and who and got final settlement figures and payment in full off these debt chasers i would consider it as i owe nothing but my mortgage, i dont like debt letters through my door - however they could be making it up as they go along and after paying several hundred pounds off i am not prepared to do anymore.
the share save is a discounted share price with an option to buy after 5 years so its a good way of saving for maybe a disneyland holiday for the kids in 5 years so daft not to do it really0 -

Of course you could ask them if you really wanted to know,
then you could pay the debts if you really wanted to do.“It is difficult to get a man to understand something, when his salary depends on his not understanding it.” --Upton Sinclair0 -
Indeed. Owe money all over, but take a holiday instead of paying it off?

This.
By the sound of things the debts are likely to be statute-barred, while it seems clear that any payments you make at this stage would go to the debt collectors rather than the original creditors. So the posters urging you to pay them off are simply wrong, and have not got to grips with the situation.
So what your GF (not you) needs to do is visit the relevant section of this forum to get template letters, then write to any debt collectors who make contact with a 'prove it' letter. The chances are that none of them will be able to provide evidence that any money is actually owed, other than statute-barred debts.0 -

If the debts are all statute barred, then there was little need for the opening question about avoiding them discovering that their client might be saving or investing before attending to the debt.0 -
Thank you for your reply - i have been with my gf for 7 years and all the debts were a long time prior to this so i am guessing they are statute-barred and all these letters are just hopeful debt companies fishing. To all the posters who keep harping on about paying back what is owed clearly havent read the full posts. Its not my debt, the ones i yes i paid off refused to issue a full and final settlement letter after i had paid in full so they can get stuffed.
as for saving to take the kids to disney land how is that a reason people are in debt - the saving part says it all i would have thought. Thank you for all your sensible input, the stupid i am choosing to ignore.Voyager2002 wrote: »This.
