Aye some of those games made an absolute fortune, probably far better in terms of real return than most modern games due to the low production cost.

Indeed - four blokes sitting in some rented office for three months, compared to the army of people and millions of £s for modern games.

Aye, it shocked me the first time I realised that some of the games were costing as much as a major film.

These days I tend to be buying most of my games in Steam sales and the likes of the Humble Bundle and Indiegala, typically waiting a few months after a game I want is released (unless for example if you pre-order you get additional games*).

I think the games I've played the most over the last couple of years cost under a tenner each when I got them (Saint's Row 3/4, the Kerble space program, and Prison Architect), whilst my average price per game has been something like £3.

*I quite like the way sometimes on Steam if you pre-order one game you'll get another by the same publisher or in the same series FOC as a bonus.

Rose tinted glasses there my friend

Back in the day Spectrum games would have had an RRP of £6.95.

Heres a review of "Ant Attack" from a mag at the time showing £6.95

Dont forget you can get XBox One games from a tenner upwards, and PC versions are even cheaper. You can get a perfectly good PC game for a few pounds

    one word Mastertronic :D

  • Fired up my old xbox 360 today and thought i would have a little play....... on fifa.

Got beat by a girl twice, i did beat her once though but she had had a man sent off.

3 games was enough for me.

I'm just not a gamer anymore.

I don't know why but when i am playing games i feel as though i should be doing something productive, it sort of reminds me of the days when i was a teenager and just sit there like a zombie for 12 hours.

Games and consoles are ridiculous prices, last games i bought were call of duty mw3 and fifa 15, and i think they set me back £100. I think i have had it with games now.

    :(

    +1

The amount of good and interesting games you can get for very little is quite amazing!

Yup games development has gone beyond many movies in terms of budget:

137 Million Dollars to develop GTA V and another 128 million to market it!

Slightly different from the likes of Andy Davidson, developing Worms on his amiga in his bedroom. I met him once at an event and cursed him for stealing my time :D
