Hi all,
I have a spreadsheet for my electricity and gas usage and do my meter readings every week, I put them in my spreadsheet and work out how much we have spent that week, so I know where I am in terms of being in credit etc.
I am with EDF and have just switched to their Blue + Price Promise November 2016
Now my spreadsheet doesn't exactly match the bill each time, its usually a few pounds out, not the end of the world I know lol but I was hoping to have it matching.
I think it is as they have two different figures on their website, the normal unit rate and the tariff comparison rate, and I am not sure which one I should be using?
I know VAT needs adding to them as well (whichever is the right rate to use) and the daily standing charge, and I know to convert the gas reading into actual usage (I got the calculation from my bill)
So their website shows:
Electric Unit rate = 11.44p per kwh, Gas Unit Rate = 2.754p per kwh
And
Tariff Comparision rate = Electric 13.66p per kwh, Gas 3.52p per kwh
Does anyone know which rate I should use to calculate actual spends
Thanks

Tariff comparison rates includes the standing charge and divided out over a number of units.
The electricity rate therefore shows a standing charge of 20p per day applies.
For your spreadsheet you need to be using the unit rate and adding 20p/day.
VAT of 5% is included in the rate.
You might also have direct debit, paperless and dual fuel discounts.:footie:
Regular savers earn 6% interest (HSBC, First Direct, M&S)
Loans cost 2.9% per year (Nationwide) = FREE money.

Thanks, so if I use the unit rate plus 20p per day so £1.40 for the week, then I will have more than enough covered if I do have any discounts on?
Thanks for your help

To calculte your bill use the actual Unit Rate multiplied by the number of units used (adjustments needed to turn the gas into kWh), and the Standing Charge by the number of the days between the readings. The TCR is for comparison purposes only and is not an actual price. It is a bit like an APR used in the banking industry and is based on typical consumption of 3100kWh electricity and 12500kWh of gas. VAT should already included in the rates listed on the website0

The electric is easy as long as you know the discounts and how to apply them. Gas is slightly more difficult as there is a variable, calorific value, in the equation. This can be downloaded from the NG website and averaged over the billing period for a pretty accurate result. National Grid:
My spreadsheet for both fuels gives accurate billing figures.
