Adding a cloakroom WC

Hi, I'm dividing a large room in a single story extension (built and signed off years ago) into two by adding a small cloakroom wc. If I can branch off the soil stack (only a metre away through the front wall) and no other drainage works are needed and as long as the the room has ventilation do I need to notify anyone or get the work checked or signed off?
Thanks.
Thanks.

You should get it signed off for proper ventilation.Everything that is supposed to be in heaven is already here on earth.

Who will insist on a hand basin too??Perfection takes time: don't expect miracles in a day0

Yes basin will be installed.
So is it just a case of ringing the council after its finished?
Does it cost a lot for it to be checked and signed off?
Thanks for the advice.0 -

Sadly not Doozer - I've been asked many times "can I fit a loo in here" not realising that you need to squeeze in a hand basin too - often times it's not a practical space.
I'm sure you have come across this too
Cheers

you can do it on a building notice, you need to submit it 48 hours before you start the work.

Here is my councils page.
they will be looking at 7 things mainly.
Drainage - is it connected properly
Sanitation - is their a basin with hot and cold water
Ventilation - does the room have the required ventilation
Structure - are the new walls properly constructed
Sound insulation - is the sound insulation sufficient for a toilet
Fire escape - do the new rooms have the required fire escapes
Electrical - is any notifiable work done by a competent person and signed off, or tested by them.
a fair few of the above are not onerous but are what they'll be looking for.0 -

Thanks, does it normally cost a lot? Is there a way of doing it retrospectively?

My council would do that for £265, as long as the electrical work was signed off by the electrician.
You can do it retrospectively
http://www.shbcc.org.uk/sites/default/files/documents/DomesticRegularapril2013.pdf
Table C again
£331.64 for the building work and £343.75 for the electrics (if not already notified and signed off).
if you do go for retrospective, the inspector may want to make holes in the walls and floor to see bits and pieces, so the cost of making good could be high.0 -

you can get an all in one, helpful in really tight spaces (although pretty ugly!
