Tried switching cash a/c (with debit card) for incentive?

Has anyone attempted this? I know all the incentives specify using their switching service to switch from a current a/c, but I've noted one or two instances on this board where such incentives have been paid where the T & Cs haven't been followed to the letter. In this case, I'm thinking of those accounts which don't require DDs to be transferred, such as Nationwide Flex Direct and TSB Classic Plus. If I tried to switch to the latter using my Nat West cash account, would I be declined in time to switch a current account instead?

Are you referring to the NatWest basic bank account? A basic bank account is a current account, it just has fewer facilities than a standard current account. You can switch from a basic bank account, no problem. Yorkshire and Clydesdale Banks will even allow you to switch TO their basic account and get the joining bonus.
I switched a basic RBS account to the Halifax and got the bonus.0 -
I've just remembered that it's a First Reserve, opened in 2010 but unused for a while. The debit card is being gradually withdrawn from account holders; I lost mine last time it was replaced. I don't think cheque books are available for it.0

The First Reserve account was classed as a savings account. It's now been discontinued and customers were all transferred to the Instant Saver account in January so that's what you have now. NatWest don't issue debit cards on the Instant Saver only ATM cards.
Savings account can't be switched. You will need a current account to switch and get an incentive.0 -
You can also switch to the halifax if you haven't already done so with a current account without DD.
You can even switch if you already have an account, you can switch to that account, you don't need to open a new one, which can be beneficial if you don't want to open a new account and go through credit scoring to open a new account.I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the Banking & Borrowing, and Reduce Debt & Boost Income boards.
