TSB Classic Plus

Options
Hello MSE!

I recently opened a classic plus account at TSB to take advantage of the 5% interest and 5% cashback on contactless payments and I have 2 questions.

As I am only 20, living at home with 1 monthly income from my salary and my only direct debit is my credit card (paid in full every month) I haven't used the switching service as I thought it might be useful to keep 2 banks open and I can use my old account to take advantage of any offers in which you need the switching service.

My first question, to take advantage of the TSB offers of 5% interest and cashback, do I need to use the switching service, or will it be fine? I don't want to wait a month to find out and then potentially lose the offer?

My second question regarding the contactless, I used it to pay for my petrol £29.98 (little nervous haha) but following that I tried to use it at Greggs and it didn't take it. I tried to use it at Mcdonalds today and it said security check, so I put it in the machine and put my pin in. I tried to use it at Spar and it just wouldn't accept it, could this be because I had it in the same section as my other bank card in my wallet or have I just ben unlucky?

Thank you everyone!

When you read the account T&Cs (either before, during, or after the account application) did you see any requirement listed to switch to the account to enjoy interest and cashback?
    have I just ben unlucky?
    Yes.

You don't need to switch to get the 5% interest.

You say you've already opened the account.

If you now use it with the switching service, you will be switching away from TSB and lose all the benefits you originally opened the account for.

Where did you find a filling station that accepted contactless?
I've been looking everywhere, but can't find anywhere
(I've not bothered looking at places that are charging over the odds in the first place - usually the small independents, or motorway service stations, etc)

If you used the card sucessfully previously in contactless mode, and it's now been refused, then contact TSB.
(Sometimes you may get asked to enter your PIN for security reasons, even though you wanted to use it as contactless - that is nothing to worry about as long as the transaction then is approved)

If you hold a number of different contactless cards in the same wallet, and simply wave the entire wallet in an attempt to pay contactless, and all of your cards are rejected, then I think you have some real big problems.
Time to start making some phone calls I would suggest...
