Job applications - a rant!!!
Comments
-
In most cases the reason why somebody is applying for a new job is because they want to earn more money doing their profession, not because their dream job or dream company has suddenly appeared.
I've also seen many job specs in my time and find that more often than not they are pretty much the same i.e. outline some of the usual tasks someone in my profession does and gives very little insight into the role so seems a bit pointless to make my application anything but generic.
There have also been occasions where its become apparent at an interview that the job spec does not describe the role properly at all.
One occasion I was invited to an interview and had to prepare a presentation beforehand. The subject didn't seem to have much relevance to the job but for all I knew they could have been judging my presentation skills rather than knowledge of the role. However what they told me about the role at the interview seemed to have no relation to the job spec. To top that of they never even got back to me after the interview to tell me if I was successful or not.
So to summarise, I put my own time into applying, putting together a presentation and spent time and money attending an interview for a job which wasn't what it said on the tin and they didn't even have the decency to let me know the outcome of my interview. Is it any wonder there is a lot of apathy from job applicants out there. At least you get paid to look though the applications.0 -
