Sky line rental

I am still in the minimum term for my sky line rental (ends December) I have never used the phone line for calls (only internet access)
So I receive a letter to say they think I would benefit from inclusive 08 calls and will be charging me an extra £5 per month from December!! This is made up from £1 general increase and £4 for the inclusive calls.

When I phoned them up to say I did not use the line and did not want to pay an extra £5 per month from December I was told about a 'pay as you go' service which would not include any free calls and would only cost me an extra £1 per month. So I agreed to this.

Now I have just received a letter to say I have another years term on my line rental. This was not explained on the phone call and I do not want to stay with sky for another year.

What can I do?

Pay As You Talk is priced at £0, not £1, so something is awry here.
No free lunch, and no free laptop ;)

I took that £1 to be the extra Line rental charge as that's going up from £16.40 to £17.40.

Get back onto them and query that. Deciding you don't want a package that you don't already have should not tie you into a new contract.

I agree, as it's not a simple case of downgrading from your package, because they have chosen to remove that package.
  • Hi sorry to hijack this thread but I have the same issue and would like some advice.
I'm still within contract and have just received the same letter saying my rental is going up by a £1 per month and also they're changing my package to an extra £4 a month.
I realise I can now cancel but I'm not sure what happens with the broadband service.
I only have phone and ADSL broadband with Sky (and the service has been a bit hit & miss) so ideally wouldn't mind changing both but does the right to cancel include broadband?
Any advice would be much appreciated.

As you will likely be on the full LLU service, if you move your line rental it will automatically cancel your BB as it's required.

Earlier adopters of Sky BB could have a different phone provider but now you have to have a Sky phone line to have Sky BB unless you were one of the ones who migrated over from O2/BE and still had your phone line rental elsewhere.

    To be sure phone Sky.
