Thanks,Ididnt......just restarted after several years of not playing, didn't realise the chances of winning have decreased.0

I started when it started, in the hope it would help build Scout huts, sports halls etc
However one of it first donations was to the Churchill family to buy what I considered already should have been public records, and then they went on to fund some South American lesbians I decided enough was enough
To be fair, I volunteer at my local Age Concern and we have received lottery funding
I prefer to keep my charity cash localEight out of ten owners who expressed a preference said their cats preferred other peoples gardens0 -
Once in a very blue moon - basically when I think "Life has just taken a whack at me - and it could be solved with enough money = so surely the Universe will take this chance to help me out here?".
It hasn't worked yet - darn it....
In some ways I don't know why I bother - as I do have some premium bonds. So the Universe has the chance to "help me out" anyway = if it feels so inclined iyswim.
So it tends to boil down to those times in the last couple of years when the neighbours have been particularly obnoxious and I take the optimistic view that I might be given the chance to buy a different house and "see the back of them".0 -
I stopped buying them once the price went up from £1. I only do the Euro nowadays, even then its only if there is a triple rollover.:A:dance:1+1+1=1:dance::A

I do it now and again. Mostly euromillions and 2 tickets if I do. Hardly ever win and when I do its like £8. When I stopped doing it weekly we put the same money in a jar for a year which was more lukratuve. Now I just do it if I'm fed up at work to give me hope lol. I have premium bonds so use that as my gambling fix if I'm not playing, I win £25 now an again from them which makes up for no interest.0

I prefer to gamble on stocks and shares, horses, bingo and sporting fixtures.
I look at the "Expected Value" I should get from each and work out what is the best.
I worked out a long time ago the EV of lotteries is very very poor. If you bought many thousands of tickets in thousands of draws you can expect to get back something approaching 45% of what you spent assuming you win the £1 million once. Averaging 1 ticket over 3,000 draws (your typical life time of playing every week from 18 to 75) you can expect to get back only 25-30% of what you spent assuming you never win the JP.
It's not worth it.:footie:Regular savers earn 6% interest (HSBC, First Direct, M&S)
Loans cost 2.9% per year (Nationwide) = FREE money.

I'm the same.:)
The thing is that you can read a book on playing poker online for example and then have much more of a chance of winning money but with the lottery it's very unlikely.0 -
My OH buys a ticket each week, I only get one when inspiration strikes and it hasn't struck for a year or so.I was jumping to conclusions and one of them jumped back0

I've never played it; I don't care for the odds of winning, and I'd sooner donate to a charity of my own choosing. Also, if I'm honest, getting the mobility buggy out just to go and spend £2 on something I have less than a snowball's chance in hell of winning is too much like hard work.:DIf your dog thinks you're the best, don't seek a second opinion.;)0

I do play about twice a year, then only one ticket, when there is a high rollover.
