mbna PPI Scam Letter

I've received a PPI redress letter saying it's from mbna. It's addressed specifically to me, and lists the last four digits of an account number. A questionnaire has been included with my name, address, and date that the PPI was bought already generated on it. I can't say I ever remember having a mbna card, and phoned their office (not the number supplied on the letter) and they say they don't have any record of me. mbna didn't seem overly bothered that if it wasn't them that sent the letter then someone else is using their name to gather people's bank details, date of birth, and information about security questions.
I must say the letter looks all above board and lists the correct company website address, and when I googled the address supplied it appears to bring up the legitimate mbna website.
any ideas on what to do with this?

Mbna took over old abbey national crdit cards and old alliance and leicester cards, if you used one of these.
  • Ah that's interesting, I've had a Santander/abbey national credit card before! Weird that mbna didn't have any info on their database about me though. I might fill it in and send it to the address actually listed on the website rather than the one supplied with the letter.

If the address is a legitimate one then use that address. Sending it elsewhere just delays it being received by the right people.
  • I don't know for sure that it is a legitimate address on the letter though. It doesn't appear anywhere on the mbna website, and they do have a specific PPI address on the website.

I have a similar claim with mbna, i had an alliance and leicester/abbey national credit card. Both were up held by Santander, who wrote in their letter that Mbna took over those cards in March 2003. They toldl me to calim with Mbna, for anything after 2003, i rang them and they told me i had a credit card with them from march 2003 to august 2004. As the original cards were upheld by santander (without any problem as i had some old statements). Im hoping Mbna do the same.
  • Well at least it sounds less like a scam letter now. Those things always bug me as my elderly dad has been caught out by a scam before and no one seems to be bothered about it, it's just flippantly passed off as him being a silly old fart who should've read the fine print or researched it more. Unfortunately the older generations are taken advantage of because they're more trusting of people.
I'll send the form back to mbna and see what they say either way.
