Can't Find The Credit Card I Want

I have had credit cards for years, and I pay them off every month. My problem is my circumstances have changed and I have to budget very hard and I find that my current credit card (HSBC) will cut off the payments at different dates each month, a variation of 5 days, which can lead me to go over my budget. I asked can they not stick to the same day each month, say 21st, and they said it was impossible to do. I then tried Barclaycard and they cut off every 18 working days, which would mean I would have to sit and work it out then try to remember different dates each month.

Surely there must be a credit card company that will cut off at the same date each month (though I appreciate it could be 1 day late if that date falls on a Sunday). Does anybody know of a credit card company that will do this? Thanks.

Capital One. They produce my statements on 25th of every month - even Christmas Day. They've only missed it once in nine years.

But why not use two cards?, preferably with billing dates about fifteen days apart to maximise the interest-free period.

Halifax, Tesco, American Express and Nationwide all produce my statements on the same date each month.

American Express have a variation of 1 day for me, my statements are generated on either the 24th or 25th of the month.
I have no real idea why that variation exists though as i've had statements generate on Saturdays, Sundays, and bank holidays that fall on those dates so the variation isn't explained by those.

Well, in my experience the statements are certainly dated the same date each month, but e.g. if the date is a Saturday then certain transactions will not be included until the next statement whereas they would have been included if the date was a Friday.

Is it not easier to budget for the latest possible date rather than change the CC because of this?

I do appreciate your frustration here and also appreciate that different credit card company's do things differently but with my Lloyds bank credit card it is actually very easy to work out when I can start spending again if I don't want anything more to appear on the current statement.
    I have online banking.
The statement due date of the next statement is clearly shown both on the current statement and on my internet banking screen.
It is normal for purchases to appear on the statement during the late evening of the day following the transaction.
Transactions undertaken prior to the statement date normally appear on the statement. Transactions undertaken on or after the statement date do not. If the statement date is a Saturday or Sunday the preceding Friday may be treated as the statement date for this purpose. But take care if statement due date is a Monday; everything you spend during the weekend will appear.
Due to the very small possibility that a transaction undertaken on the statement date could appear on the statement (rare but has been known to happen) avoid any large purchases until the day following the statement date.
  • Thanks for the suggestions everyone. I'm going to look at having a credit card with one of the companies suggested.

Yes I have this with Amex, generally generated on the 19th of every month other than maybe a couple of times a year when the 20th but for no obvious reason e.g. weekend, bank holiday etc as Amex seem to generate on these days anyway.

Watch the terms on Halifax cards, as with the one I have if its not paid in full one month, you can get charged interest for the following 2 months, on the whole of the amount spent in month 1.
