I'm still storing some stuff my mate asked me to look after for about a week after he walked out on his ex about 3 years ago.

He's a really good mate, and even then it's always awkward and he gets moody when we bring it up. I plan on dumping it when we move next year as I'd already given him a deadline to move it that he just ignored.

...and this dilemma is to do with someone you've never met before, let alone a life-long friend?

To be fair - the answer to this is easy because there's a really easy excuse. Just say you need the space yourself. They'll never know if you don't.
  • You're renting but you've had tenants in the past? Did you get your landlords permission?

What's she wanting to store in your flat? I'd make sure it's legal stuff first!
  • Probably not worth the hassle of charging for the storage space, as if you do, it is taxable and you will need to declare it to HMRC.
  • I wouldn't store it for them but I also definitely wouldn't charge, as I think that would automatically much-increase your responsibility for the stored stuff.
Like other posters I have a hard time believing this scenario could possibly be real.
  • Well I dumped a load of stuff on my mate when I got a job overseas at short notice. While I was away he moved house and had to move all my stuff as well. When I got back 7 years later, it turned out that he'd used my wok. The nerve of the guy!
