New contracts on a new rented flat: help
Hi,
My partner and I will be renting a new 1-bed flat and were wondering how long it will take and how easy it will be to set up new contracts for utilities (gas electric water + internet). Can this be done online or does someone from the utilities company need to visit? How does it take to be able to start using?
Even though I'll try to read this thread, are there any tips we should take into consideration? I know there is cashback for switching companies, but is there when we first set up a contract for an apartment?
Many thanks for all the tips in advance!!

You are stuck with the water company that supplies your area - so no choice.
Initially you will be billed by the gas/electricity company that are currently supplying your flat(there will normally be correspondence addressed to 'the occupier') If you don't wish to use that supplier you just apply to a new company - it normally takes several weeks for the change to take effect.
Even brand new flats will have gas/ electricity and water connected. Make sure you read all 3 meters as soon as you move in.
Normally you will have to contact the phone company(usually BT) to get the phone connected at the exchange. It is then a case of contacting the internet company of your choice - unless you are on cable.0
