O/S Daily Friday 9th October 2015
This is an “over the garden fence” type thread where we chat about everything Old Style and maybe a little bit more. It’s a great, inspiring and motivating thread we start each day to discuss what Old Style things we’re going to do today or what we’ve achieved already. Everyone’s welcome, please do come in, put your feet up (although check the fence hasn’t just been painted first!) and join us for an Old Style natter. The more the merrier!
As this is the Old Style Board, it would be appreciated if posts could include some Old Style content. Please be aware that many people may have small screens, or SLOW internet connections, so please don’t post large pictures, or clip art – links are preferred. When you make a post, if you feel like giving it a title, that will help others that don’t have the time to read everything skim through the thread quickly but if not it's not a problem. Please do not start a new daily thread before you go to bed at night because this often leaves things confusing with two daily threads live at the same time. The idea is that a member would start each new daily thread after they get up in the morning.
Some people who chat here like to try to answer everyone. Don’t feel you have to though, a general “hi everyone, hope everyone’s well” is fine.
Morning everyone
Birthday wishes to those celebrating a birthday, hope you have a great day x
Hugs and get well wishes to those that want/need them.
Getting light, looks to be dry underfoot, but temperature really dropping at nights now, I managed to get a load of washing line dried yesterday and I have another ready to go out shortly. I did also put the gas fire on in the lounge yesterday morning and set the airer up around it for clothes that had been on the line but weren’t quite dry from the day before – I still haven’t put the heating on and really don’t want to just yet.
DH up and gone to work stupid early. DS1 now getting ready for work. DS2 still in his pit – they are not at school today due to a training day.
Dinner last night was chicken, chips/jacket potato and beans/veg, dessert was either ice cream or from the tins – which are now empty! Dinner tonight is going to be prawns in black bean sauce, egg fried veg rice and mushroom chow mein.
Yesterday I was reasonably productive, I did get the housework done, but again no real deep clean but good enough. I wrote a list and managed to get some things crossed off. I rang our phone/broadband provider to complain yet again, 4th week in a row about awful telephone line and broadband that some days the connection is so bad it’s unusable – actually spoke to someone that assisted me and told me more info than everyone else I’ve spoken to, he advised that according to the records our broadband connection has dropped over 50 times since 28 Sept – it will be much higher than that today as yesterday it was awful and I managed to get him on the line whilst the connection to broadband was dropping off, he did a line test and confirmed there’s a fault on the line – everyone else has done line tests over this past weeks I’ve been phoning them and been told there’s no fault on the line! I have an Engineer booked to visit on Wednesday afternoon – free of charge – we’ll see a) if anyone arrives, b) if he actually does anything – as I’ve stated all along I don’t think the fault is in my house as I’ve already had this problem before and Engineer came out and replaced the socket into the house and all the cable – and that isn’t that long ago. I also managed to contact the plumber and he’s coming out the end of next week as my en suite toilet flush doesn’t flush and the shower in the main bathroom on/off handle is seized and is horrifically difficult to switch off, to the point where I can’t turn it off. Hoping that neither cost too much, as we spent so much money on the boiler at the start of the year – within the last 18 months the 2 biggest most expensive parts in the boiler went wrong and we finished up having to have both replaced, so could do with a break from spending out on household stuff going wrong.
I’ll be heading to SM shortly – I’ve started going to SM first thing once they open, it’s lovely fully stocked shelves and not too many customers it means I can shop quickly and get out, home put shopping away and then go into town – a bit of a faff, but does mean I can shop at the cheaper shops and then just visit the bigger SM’s for anything I can’t get elsewhere. I need to go into town also so will do that and visit SM on way back home if anything from there is needed.
Keep safe and well x

Morning one and all. Another lovely day forecast so a basket full of towels and bath mats waiting to peg out when it's light!
The 3 DGDs are all still in bed so enjoying my last bit of peace before having to wake them up. Eldest (11) is, for the first time, meeting a couple of friends after school and going to McD's with them. DD is worried sick and left her with a list of strict warnings. They'll be repeated by me when she gets up! You have to trust them some time so hope all goes ok. She's a sensible girl (most of the time!!)
(Youngest just got up by herself and now watching Dora!)
We are back at St James today for Mr TA's injection and angiogram result - our lives are ruled by hospital appointments these days. Appointment not until 2.00 (that means we will get in about 4.00!!) so don't need to leave until the 12.30 train to Leeds. I dread to think how much we have spent on taxis and train fares throughout all this. And now Liverpool is involved too the train fares are escalating.
Well middle DGD now up so better go up and rouse the eldest. Let the fun begin!!
Have a good day all ((((HUGS))))) for those wanting or needing and take care xx"If you dream alone it will remain just a dream. But if we all dream together it will become reality"0 -
Morning
Good luck to DH TA
Day off for me today , I'm up early , I either wake up very early or I can't sleep when I go to bed. It seems I can't sleep for a whole night
I'm sat with a cuppa , hot water bottle and a cat
Plans for today , tidy the garden and cut the grass if it's dry enough .
Dd2 wants me to go to town with her later but I'll see how I feel .
Going to make a base mince today to turn into a chilli and cottage pie
Have a good day everyone xx0 -
Morning all
I hope all goes well TA, the amount of money spent on fares is scarey isn't it.
Hugs to LW and anyone else in need.
Knock on the door last night at 9:30, my neighbour had just seen a huge spider run across her room & she was home alone. I found it and removed it, I didn't have the heart to tell her that spiders have a great homing instinct & that it would probably be back! I did offer to collect some conkers for her to put by all the doors & windows.
I'm off to work in a sec, then collecting DGD for dance class, no dgc staying tonight as hubby won't finish until late and it makes their bedtime too late.
After next week hubby's shifts will be all over the place as one of his team is leaving & I ca't see them getting a replacement until after Christmas.
There is a big meeting at work today and wild rumours are flying around, one of our newer staff members wondered if we were to be told there would be no pay rise this year. When I stopped laughing I told her they wouldn't bother to announce that as before last year we'd been 8 years without a pay rise. She was horrified, she has been expecting a yearly pay rise of about 2% - 5%, well there is no chance of support staff getting anything like that.
Time I set off for work.
Have a good day everyone.
Hugs HesterChin up, Titus out.0 -
Morning All
Dry again, the washing dried a treat yesterday. I was on the train, walked to the hospice but got a lift home, DD didn't finish in time to pick me up. Took DD back home later so didn't actually sit down till 9.30!
More washing to go out today, will put the towels on when I've had a shower. DW emptied, I'm down to the last DW tablet, must remember to get more.
I have to pack tonight! Most of the clothes are on DS2s bed but have to show them the case later, the flight leaves at 6am tomorrow, will have to leave here at 3.30am, just wondering if it's worth going to bed!
In service day here today, I'm off to another school to try and learn a few things for the office - my brain is beginning to hurt with all this new stuff and I'm expected to learn Spanish next week too!
nmlc - hope you get everything fixed quickly.
TA - thinking of you and Mr TA today.
Have a good Friday, see you next week. Adios! Take care (don't know what that is in Spanish!). XX0 -
Morning everyone.
I'm in Glasgow, mum sent me an email saying she was very wobbly on her legs and could I come down. She's using a stick for the first time ever and I'm taking her to the docs this afternoon. I'll probably stay until tomorrow now so I can get her Saturday paper (crossword needed) and a bit of shopping.
Before that I got a load of towels on the line which almost dried before I left - they're hanging over the upstairs railings now. The DW got a load done too though I didn't get to unload it, just opened the door before I left.
I planted a whole bag of crocus bulbs too, about 100 of the blighters. I noticed they were beginning to sprout so thought it was about time they were put in the ground.
TA - hope your trip to Leeds is smooth enough. Perhaps the docs there will have news of the Liverpool stuff.
My day will be a mystery tour, though I wish everyone a happy Friday.
Camelot - have a fab trip away. Sorry we won't get to meet up this time round.0 -

Morning :hello:
Gers I enjoyed Cyber, but I rewound a couple of bits because I couldn't quite follow it properly. There's not much CSI, is there? It's all FBI. Feels like Criminal Minds with a bit of the cheesiness of CSI Miami, plus a few lines being edited out so you can't follow the story properly. I'll carry on watching it though
camelot Have a good time x
TravellingAbuela Good luck today x
There's ash dotted around outside, there was a huge fire at the docks the other day so I'm wondering if the ash is falling now? We're less than two miles away so I would've thought it'd fallen here before now.
I haven't got any plans for today, I've decided to pop to town then come back and do as little as possibleI have a few towels to hang up to dry then I'm going to carry on crocheting my jumper. I keep measuring it against my favourite, though rather tatty, jumper and it seems OK but when I look at it on it's own it seems too big. Time will tell

Morning all, best wishes for MR TA.
This is my day off, but will be working for a few hours this afternoon. A bright day, need to get the washing on the line, making the most of these beautiful, clear a autumn days.
Made list for OH to get shopping done, need to tidy round and practise ignoring the ironing, a near-perfect art now.
I thought buying a pair of pyjamas in a size or two would be fine, they would shrink in the wash. They are the only non shrink pjs in the world.I was jumping to conclusions and one of them jumped back0 -
DGDs just been bundled in the car and I have collapsed with a much deserved coffee! Just wanted to wish CAMELOT a happy holiday and hope GERS mum is ok. HESTER I could do with you next door to me! I hate spiders and yesterday when Mr TA was off on the school run I spotted an enormous one at the bottom of the stairs! I grabbed the fly and wasp spray and sprayed non-stop at it! It went beserk and scuttled behind the bookcase. I thought to die but next thing it was on the door mat! I grabbed the mat and threw it outside! Mr TA wondered what had been going on when he got back!! xx"If you dream alone it will remain just a dream. But if we all dream together it will become reality"0
