Friday 9th October - What small DFW things will you do today?

Morning DFW-Ninjas,
Thanks for the starter Bob and Maria sorry about the chickens.
I need to have endless energy today. I'll have to add to the list as I do it again.
OH is feeling not bad this morning so we're going to grocery shop together.
<Gets on soap-box>. It seems to me that there we live in a society where 'mental elf' issues are common and therefore it's completely normal to struggle with these things, despite what the DailyFail prints. I recovered from my main issues a couple of years ago, but like so many people, from time-to-time, I wobble and have to take action to get back to where I want to be. I don't think any of us should be embarrassed about our minds or apologise for feeling this way. It is how we are and we should not apologise for this. All we can do is take wee steps to look after ourselves. If we recover, we recover and that is good; if we do not recover yet we should not punish ourselves. Life is not a bl**dy competition! <Gets off soap-box>.
Debt-Free Nillionaire Month 5:
* Checked broadband allowance.
* Checked I'd been paid. Yes! Thank Smurf!
* Get computer to allow me to type Polish characters in Facebook, preferably at no cost to myself.
* Cleaned oven with Stardrops.
* Yesterday we bought a Curry-in-a-bag from Tesco. Heavily discounted to £3.75 for two curries, rice, naan bread and Bombay potatoes. Saved the four pastic tupperware dishes for the freezer. This was cheaper than buying just four freezer dishes which we needed.
List will grow later. OH needs a soft omelette cooking!
Have a good day everyone, keep the DFW faith.

I just popped back in to say 'hello' to find that Bob has sprogged. Congratulations!
Things are progressing with the house move, the survey has been done on mine and the survey on the one I'm buying is scheduled for next Tuesday. I slightly shortened the term that the remainder of my mortgage will be over to give me a nice round monthly payment of £300 which is £415 less than it is now :T
I only have 3 weeks left of my contract here now but they have booked me for another 3 weeks to work on a different title plus i have 8 days booked in December and an appointment on Monday with someone that has shifts to fill throughout Nov/Dec which is reassuring.
I have just £60 to last me until payday in one weeks time but I know it's doable. I got a bit down about it when I realised and then remembered I've paid £375 for a search this month so I've actually spent less than usual.
Yesterday I bought a dining table on a credit card (I know, I know!) because I have to leave mine behind as it wraps around the island. I knew which one I wanted (and have to buy it before the January sales as we need to eat Christmas dinner off of it!) and it has been reduced by a third with then a further 25% off and I couldn't resist. I'm not having it delivered yet as I don't want to tempt fate!
Hope you are all keeping well, sorry about your chickens, Maria.
xMake £25 a day in April £0/£750 (March £584, February £602, January £883.66)
December £361.54, November £322.28, October £288.52, September £374.30, August £223.95, July £71.45, June £251.22, May£119.33, April £236.24, March £106.74, Feb £40.99, Jan £98.54) Total for 2017 - £2,495.100 -
List continued:
* Grocery shopping down. Used £1.76 coupon. Made a couple of within-budget impulse buys.
* Bought 89p bottle of apple cider for our night in tonight.
* OH had leftover soup from yesterday's lunch, I had left over jacket potato.
* Did GfK survey.
* Picked a late rose from the garden for OH.
* Located my Autumn hat and scarf. I don't need to buy new ones. Refreshed hat with sellotape to remove dust.
* Put old bed linen on for the 'invalid'.
* Gave my indoor fushcia some TLC. Looking a bit yellow as it has whitefly. Washed leaves with diluted washing up liquid and re-potted it as the soil looked to be nutrient-less. I've had it for a few years so I don't want to lose it.
* Salvaged six sheets of A4 paper and an envelope from today's junkmail.
* Most importantly I added more to our holiday savings fund. This is the first time since I was 16 I saved for an expensive holiday in advance with a proper savings account instead of piling it on The Debt. This represents real progress for me.
* Earned £20 from i-Say by having an App installed on my phone that spied on my mobile usage for three months, specifically on what radio shows I listened to. Will be paid within three weeks. This was easy money, though it did use about 25% more battery, all I had to do was install the App and once a day connect to the internet and click 'Upload'.
* Saved leftover mash from dinner to fry into almost-Latkes tomorrow.

Hi Frugal Friends,
Not the best of MSE days today for one reason & another, mainly because we went grocery shopping & went over budget. And that's without the butcher's where we'll be going tomorrow. I meal planned very well & made a list, which we stuck to, but it included a number of items I need for preserving season & a couple of bits for my festive baking stash, so I shall need to update the grocery budget properly tomorrow (already top-sliced by £50 this month for the car fund).
Anyway, I bounced back from the over-spend & here are a few money saving things from today:
*Cleaned whole house using minimal products & washable microfibre cloths.
*Picked up more windfall pears & mr f reached down load of high up ones as he's had a half day today. Then he picked all the apples he could reach without the ladder. Rang Labour Party friend to see if she could use another big bag of pears and she said 'Yes'. Result! Dropped them off. She's had 2 stones in weight of our pears this month!!
*Dropped off big bag of stuff to charity shop. Not money saving, but de-cluttering is always good.
*Free cappucinos & free 'Guardian' at Waitrose.
*Did not buy espresso brownie from Waitrose patisserie counter. Awarded self 10/10 for self-control. I have a serious problem with these beauties!
*Postman brought latest payment from Ipsos surveys - another £10 John Lewis gift card. Updated my signature, as I'm keeping a total this year of how much I've received in survey earnings.
*Started making apple & mint jelly. Currently dripping through jellybag.
*Wrapped & posted small hand-knitted gift, using materials from my recycled wrappings box.
*Found 2 stamps tucked away in my purse, which I'd forgotten about.
*No heating on. Glorious sunshine today. Only needed a little cardi for going out & there were people in Aldi wearing shorts & flip-flops! Have draped furry throw over the back of sofa ready for chilly evenings (Ooooh, mr f has just brought me a chip!) but haven't needed to use it yet.
Well, that's me.
Have enjoyed reading what everyone's been up to. Sorry about the chickens, Maria. What a shame. I like foxes too, & I know that's what they do, but it's so sad & distressing nevertheless.
Ally - your comments on anxiety are spot-on. I also have days when I feel my old anxiety could start to re-surface. I describe this as it 'trying to get out of its box'. 95% of the time, I have it firmly shut in there. Acknowledging how common anxiety is & understanding that we get it because of the 'fight or flight' survival mechanism helps such a lot. Our caveman (sorry, cavepersons!) ancestors needed to be wired this way as there could be a grinning sabre-tooth tiger around every corner. We mostly don't face those type of dangerous scenarios, but our 'caveman' fight or flight' response is still there, hard-wired in us, & kicks in when our minds tell our bodies that there is a stressful situation. I did find that the science of a panic attack stopped me beating myself up for 'being ridiculous'. As a confident, very independent woman, I'd never experienced anything like it before. We're all human, I guess.
Have a nice evening all,
f x2026's challenges: 1) To rebuild our Emergency Fund to at least £5k.
2) To read 50 books (12/50) 3) The Re-Shrinking of Foxgloves 8.1kg/30kg
Remember....if you have to put it on a credit card, extend your overdraft or take out a loan to buy whatever it is, you probably can't afford it, as that's not your money, it's somebody else's!0
