    If you do opt for the mortgage holiday, I would suggest applying for longer than 6 months - perhaps even twice as long - in case you need to stay off work even longer. My friend's son was born at just under 25 weeks, and although there have been no real long term issues with his health (he's 6 now and apart from a slight loss of hearing in one ear, he is absolutely fine), the first two years were pretty intense with an endless round of medical appointments and check-ups. If your mortgage provider approves a 6 month holiday, it might be harder to get another 6 months later if the need arrives.
