My sisiter is looking for a laptop and she has come across this model from Tescos for £350 - I have ever only purchased Dell or Toshibas so although I will have my own opinions, I wondered if any one else knows anything about "Gateway" laptops.
Thanks in advance

The problem with the spec is that it only has 512mb RAM ad they have filled both sockets with 256mb each. You really need 1gb RAM for vista so thats an extra £30 and your not far off the price of some dual core laptops.0

With it being vista I wouldnt go for anything less that a 1.6 core2duo especially with only 512mb or memory0

Gateway were quite a big player in the UK about 10 - 15 years ago, when they were competing with the likes of Dell, Viglen, Mesh, Tiny, Evesham etc. Dell eventually saw off most of the UK home user competition, and Gateway disappeared from the UK market, back to its USA home I believe.
Their PC's usually received good reviews, and the brand was generally highly thought of in terms of reliability, build quality, and performance to price.
They reappeared in the UK about a year or so, selling through Tesco and ToysRUs. I recently bought one of their laptops, the MT6839B, as a replacement for my 5yo Compaq Presario and I am very happy with it.
I've also heard that their customer service is pretty good but have not had cause to test this myself so far.0 -

thats the way to go im telling you.
i must promote this laptop so much for tesco!0 -
Noticed some tesco stores are selling them for £299, anyway most laptops are generic so the insides are rather similar. But you shoud ask yourself what do you want the laptop for..........
Otherwise check out tomshardware.com loads of useful hints and info there.
But looking at the spec its better than my company T21 IBM slowtop.0 -

I can vouch for their cust service, live help online, sent me a restore disc next day recorded.Fr. Stack: While you were out, I got the keys to your car. And drove it into a big wall. And if you don't like it, tough. I've had my fun, and that's all that matters.0

Hi,
I too have the Gateway laptop that Play had on offer back in February this year. I phoned a few weeks ago for back up/restore disc(rather than make my own as a bit blonde!) Received them within a week, very good after sales i think.
Would thoroughly recommend them.
Cheers

Got one of these from Tesco 2 weeks ago for general Internet use/ word processing /spreadsheets
has Vista premium and 1 gig of RAM which means vista runs fine for my use!
I'm delighted with it!The Early bird may catch the worm ...but its the second mouse that gets all the cheese!0
