W. H. Smith will pack

Just wondered if anyone has used this method to make a will, and how secure it is. We are just a couple, with two kids, and have no complex wishes. Just straightforward, if one goes first, other one gets the lot, then it would be divided equally between the kids.
Don't want to seem a skinflint, but if this method is perfectly adequate, well, why not.
I notice that there are two packs, standard, and deluxe, but no idea what the difference is beyond a slight increase in price.
Thanks....

If things are as simple as you say, AND you are confident you can follow the instructions re witnessing signatures, then it may be adequate.

I've no idea what the difference between the standard and deluxe pack is.

    HOWEVER ...

we recently had our wills re-drawn, updating them from when the boys were small. We were actually simplifying the original wills. And I am not sorry to have paid a solicitor for this. We had a few 'what if' conversations, we were prompted to make Powers of Attorney, and we know the outcome is what we wanted.

If the children are under 18, then I'd say a solicitor every time, because a trust will be created on the 2nd death. If over 18, what do you want to happen if one of them dies before the second death, having had children first? And so on.
Signature removed for peace of mind

Sorry to be flippant but I read the title and went:
    W. H.Smith will pack what?...oops, a will pack...... but it made me laugh.
I have used the charity will deal twice- you pay a reduced or fxed fee- think it may just be a special deal in November, or else it was with Cancer Research

Sue, you bring up some good points, thanks. Things are never quite so simple when it comes to families sorting out a will. I should have given it more thought.

A decent solicitor would do a far more thorough job, particularly around all the areas that you've not thought about. It's more than simply leaving money/assets to the other. Eg who looks after the kids if you both die before they're 18? Who gets the money/assets if you all die together, i.e. in a car or plane crash? Who will be your executors? We spent hours thinking about ours and now know exactly what happens and who gets what in all the various permutations, to make sure that the right people get our estate.
