Secondary Glazing

I already have double glazing in my bedroom but it's not sufficient enough to dampen traffic noise enough with me being a light sleeper. It's a fairly small bedroom window probably 0.8 x 1.2m I've been quoted £500 to £700 which seem ridiculous considering it doesn't need locks or weather proof. How much does a unit roughly cost and I'll install it myself? Thank You

Secondary Glazing is not a "unit"

And that price is way over the top for whatever you have been quoted.

Sounds like you have been quoted for a a triple glazed unit.

    Go here:-

Measure what size you need and then ask them to include all the bits you need. If possible use the magnetic strips (you can also use pins ...a pain but required for certain scenarios. Measure very accurately.

It is a fiddly job but take your time and you should be able to do it quite easily there are video guides). Count on an hour a window. Go for the cheaper acrylic (4mm better for noise) unless the window is huge.

Highly recommended company I have used them on numerous occasions. I suspect they won't be the cheapest. Do not be tempted to cut this stuff at home it is a serious pain in the !!!.

How on earth does it sound like he's been quoted for a triple glazed unit? What rubbish.

A Low E Triple Glazed DGU at that size (with obscure glass) would cost an absolute maximum £100, even then i'd feel i'd been ripped off. £25-£50 for fitting etc so a max of £150

Personally i wouldn't bother with secondary (unsightly poor performing junk in most cases), just get an acoustic DGU to replace the current one, cut and paste below into your browser.
