Work laptop, which one?

Dear fellow chat forum users I am after your help.

One of our (as in the place I work) client's is after a new work laptop. My boss said he would give the client some advice, and naturally, via the art of delegation has asked me to look into it (I should point out he will be taking all the credit).

The client has said she has up to £2k to spend. My boss, in his wisdom, said you could easily get one for that amount and reckoned you only need to spend £1k. The client will be using the laptop mainly for general office tasks, but a fair amount of multi-tasking. She will be using it often on the train, but it does not need to be ultra compact. I'm guessing heavy multitasking though.

He wants me to look at what could be bought and how quick and easy it would be to deliver. He's told me to have a look at a Dell offering as well. What other laptop makes (I'm thinking IBM, Toshiba, Fujistu) would be good for our client, with specs?

Cheers much for any help, assistance, etc.

Something with 512MB or more RAM. Good battery life and compact as you say.

Time to look into the laptop hunt......

Cheers. Forgot to mention tech support would be very useful. Also the client asked if it would be possible to have it in pink. My boss said probably not to the pink thing.

..and now you are delegating to us...and you will take all the credit if your boss is pleased.....so you cant blame him really!

I personally like toshiba and IBM. Sony laptops have great screens but seem pricey

Too true!! I've found this Dell one which I think may fit her needs, the Latitude D810 (widescreen). I am looking into the Toshiba's and IBM's as well. However are those still only with nipples, or can you get them with touchpads now?

    Cheers much again.

You could try Acer Notebooks here and here . They also do a bright red Ferrari laptop - but you are definately paying for the name!

Dont know - cos I like the nipples (actually I refer to them by another part of a woman's anatomy which is even more fiddly - but I wont mention that here!)

Get one with a Pentium-M processor 1.7 ghz or more. (these should be light and with decent battery life). 512mb RAM as mentioned though with your budget you could get 1Gb. Forget about widescreen. You'll need to check out tech support. I've heard bad things about Acer. Look at Rockdirect as they have a decent reputation.

    Sorry to disagree, but....
...1Gb wont really be any better than 512Mb for general 'office stuff'
...Widescreen is very good if you want to watch films on the train!
