    Answer the question honestly.

If 'Have you EVER had a mortgage declined?' answer YES

If asked in last x years answer accoringly.

it's not a matter of if, it is must. They do credit checks and can see previous credit searches.

Be truthful or your will end up with egg on your face. Anything else is fraud and could lead to dire consequences.

No, you should lie about anything that you think will harm your chances.

I can't think of many lenders who even ask these days.

We started the application process with Barclays and Natwest in the last month and were asked by both. The second time was through a broker, maybe it was just one of their standard questions?

It isn't a question on the NatWest website application brokers use. Was the broker you spoke to using MTE? If he was, that's MTE's question, rather than the individual lender's.

    Which/what lender?

BTW you get no Experian credit account data as they don't provide it to CMF.

Hi Kingstreet, it included some information from Experian. What I saw from CMF is reassuring that everything in the report is fine but it might be a good idea to get the Experian report as I have not checked any for many years. The lender was Santander.

I thought credit searches are only kept on your record for 12 months- so after 4 years they wont be there.

Re the OP question - if you are using a broker - he would surely know which companies ask that specific question and avoid them in favour of one that doesnt ?
