I am about to apply for a re mortgage, should I tell I had a mortgage declined 4 years ago?

it's not a matter of if, it is must. They do credit checks and can see previous credit searches.

We started the application process with Barclays and Natwest in the last month and were asked by both. The second time was through a broker, maybe it was just one of their standard questions?0 -
It isn't a question on the NatWest website application brokers use. Was the broker you spoke to using MTE? Today I got our credit files from (check my file) and there is nothing on them, could not find any search done from that lender!0

Hi Kingstreet, it included some information from Experian. What I saw from CMF is reassuring that everything in the report is fine but it might be a good idea to get the Experian report as I have not checked any for many years. The lender was Santander.0

I thought credit searches are only kept on your record for 12 months- so after 4 years they wont be there.
Re the OP question - if you are using a broker - he would surely know which companies ask that specific question and avoid them in favour of one that doesnt ?Stuck on the carousel in Disneyland's Fantasyland
