Role being made Redundant

Hi Folks,

Looking for a bit of advice (aren't we all)....the company I work for are making role X redundant. Currently there are 4 people with role X but only 3 are part of the redundancy (me being one of them).

The 4th person who is officially role X has been unofficially doing role Y for no more than two months.

Is that enough to exempt the 4th employee from the redundancy? The 4th person is still on paper as role X.

I am no expert by a long way but I would think that as the 4th person although part of role X could be classed outside of the redundant side as they are also {even for a very short time} doing role Y therefore classing that person outside of the remit of role X.
As I say I am no expert but that would be my thoughts on the situation.
