Thursday 8th October - What small DFW things will you do today?

Morning all
Thanks for the start Ally.
I agree, CCL, that Ally and her OH have done brilliantly over the last few months :T And looking at those totals, so have you :j:j What are your plans for when you are debt free?
Hope Ally's OH's dental treatment goes ok
Hope the Bob family are getting some sleep
List for today:
Keep an eye on pup as he kept being sick last night. Hoping to avoid the vet but if there is something wrong, a visit early on will be cheaper than leaving it to become more serious. Maybe he just ate something horrid. He is very small and light, so I can't really leave him to get on with it though.Having said that, he is quite lively, and is learning to jump through the cat flap :rotfl: He was charging around this morning so I didn't take him to the vet. He was sick again this afternoon, and was not interested in food
However, I gave him a heaped teaspoon of canned chicken and rice food, and he gobbled that up (he normally has dry food) so I will see if he keeps it down. A teaspoon sounds a tiny amount, but I am trying a little to start with - he weighs less than 2kg (eats quite a lot normally). He has nailed jumping through the cat flap when it is taped open - if he is better tomorrow I will try to teach him to push his way through, assuming he is big and heavy enough to be able to do this
Check banks and receipts Done
All HM meals Done
Shopping delivery this morning - first 'big' shop for several weeks, and I still have things to use up, but am also running out of staples such as flour, butter, dried fruit, dog food etc. Not THAT big a shop though! All put away. Not happy with a couple of things though, so I will email them
Make soup to use up some of the courgette mountain (I found an interesting sounding recipe online) Didn't get to this - will carry over to tomorrow
Finish making quince jelly as I was too worn out after baby GD went home yesterdayDone, not sure how greeny-yellow quinces make ruby red jelly though
Collect parcel from post office Done
Postal survey tasks, online surveys and FPL Done
Freeze zest and juice of a couple of limes that are drying out a bit - avoid food waste! Done
Freeze some stewed apple that is in the fridge Done
Check rest of fridge contents before new shopping arrives! Done
On that note, I had better get on
Hope you all have a good day0 -
Dawn - I've never come across courgette soup, I hope it turns out nice for you
(and that your puppy is ok)
Bob - Hoping that you get discharged soon and then normal life can resume, well the NEW normal0 -
Foxgloves I borrowed a friend's Madhur Jaffrey curry book yesterday, just because you are often recommending it. What recipes do you recommend (or both being delish & low cost!) Thanks xDF as at 30/12/16

Morning folks,
Thanks to ally for starting us off
maria - I love that "guru" feeling. Sometimes you feel like you have it all under control. Wish to get that feeling today!
No post yesterday (apart from welcoming baby Bobette) as am feeling inexplicably down. I feel like I need a week at home, just feel all unsettled and horrible. Oven still broken and the appliance place seemed a bit shirty with my OH when he called. Will ring back with an appointment within 7 days (that call that is, not necessarily the app!) Not sure why?
On the plus side I did have a nice evening at a friend's for a stich and b!tch. Confusing crochet pattern that tells me to sew up the back seam of a bootie but doesn't indicate where the seam is?!
Today's bits:- B/L/D from stores (must email instructions for s/c sausage casserole to OH
- Try to get OH to tidy his music room. I normally leave him to it in there but it is a total tip at the moment
- Buy coffee and sugar
- Charge phone in work
- Turn off data on phone as it's running low
- No calls for the same reason
- Use up some bit in the fridge
- Second free crossfit session. Legs killing me still. Not looking forward to this.
- Work hard and try to get out of work on time
- If I do get out on time - flylady the kitchen (get OH to help!)
- Check online banking and reconcile spreadsheet
- Check plants in greenhouse as may need some water
- see if OH will hang washing outside in sunshine
Have a good one all

Sorry you're feeling low, CLF. It will pass, you're a strong person.
Having struggled with mood this last fortnight all I could do was to try to do somethings which I believe helped me. Some of this comes from my OH's wisdom as a Stress Management Counsellor:
* I had to recognise that sometimes when my heart beats fast it's not nerves it's caffeine!! Also it is apparently often normal for a person to have a faster heartbeat and a hot moment as they are waking up. The body is practising for the day. Knowing this has stopped me always assuming that I've a stressed mind when I actually have a normal body.
* I limited my time on the internet. Checking Facebook and emails 100 times a day wasn't helping and nor was reading five news websites a day. The news stories were winding me up.
* I found ways to relax. Especially using Andrew Johnson's free Apps. (Link) They're really just MP3s you listen to through an App. I do 15 mins in the morning in bed and 20-60 mins in the evening when I get in from work. Another excuse to go back to bed! This has definitely taken the edge of it.
* When I feel overwhelmed I try to say to myself "I'm just doing one thing and I'm doing it really well." Then I try to just do one thing at a time. This is easier said than done, but it has helped a bit.
* Finally, sometimes I worry about things that might happen in the future. (Usually these things never happen; I've worried needlessly!) When I catch myself doing this I say "I'm not worrying about that til tomorrow. I'm going to think about <my holiday> instead." This is also easier said than done, but I'm giving it a try. It can't do any harm.
I felt better just knowing I had some sort of plan to tackle my mood. Dunno if any of this helps but I wish you well anyway.Debt-free day: 8th May 2015 "Remember that sometimes not getting what you want is a wonderful stroke of luck," Dalai Llama0 -

Thanks Ally and pippi
I'll try some of the tips you posted ally and am loving your new avatar btw
Weirdly I sometimes find that just admitting you feel sad for no reason makes you feel better?! Like it's not a horrible secret feeling, but just part of a normal kaleidoscope of emotions.
I have just posted on the "what are we good at?" thread to cheer myself upLBM 11/06/2010: DFD 30/04/2013Total repaid: £10,490.310 -

This is a psychological technique - I think it's called anchoring. I was told this by a friend who is a counseller recently. It's really effective I used it to get over a particularly bad break up in my 20s which I was obsessively thinking about and couldn't move on.
Things I also find helpful (in addition to the things ally has said) are doing a 10 minute mindfulness meditation, daily exercise when low. Even just a 1/2 hour walk helps with my mood. Recently I have found writing down 3 things that I am grateful for over the last 24 hours has really changed how I am perceiving the hours that make up a day.
carrie I also agree acknowledging & accepting I'm having a hard time (instead of trying to force myself to get a handle on my emotions) is often the 1st step to things seeming betterDF as at 30/12/16

Hello all,
I've been so busy at work, then getting into bed at 8pm most nights, so haven't posted for a while, but I've been reading most days anyway.
Not much going on for me - I've been having a fairly frugal month as I'm determined to make my savings target of £700. I've moved that amount into my (actually terrible and I should really open a new one) ISA account, so hopefully I won't need to dip into it.
Bob - Congratulations on your little girl - have you bought her first bike yet? :rotfl:
DNMS - I hope things are ok with your daughter at the moment, and that she's been in touch
Twiggy and CLF - hugs to you both
Pippi - 6 hours in the garden sounds very tiring!
Dawn - hope the pup is ok
Lego Mum - Good to see you keeping up the wombling with your 5p find in Bob's temporary absence.
Ally - Good news on the higher pay than you were expecting. Hope OH gets sorted at the dentist, she seems to have been experiencing quite the saga with her teeth
Ziggy - I'm picturing a huge dog like the three headed one in Harry Potter if it woke you up snoring!
Maria - I know what you mean about the cost of bake off items. I remember making a really rich chocolate cake for an ex's birthday once, and spending around £15 on what I needed (that included a springform tin). :eek:He wasn't worth it!
CCL - Good luck with your PPI. It's really nice to get a bit of money back in a lump sum.
On that note, I think I should be getting some money from my tax and NI rebate now that I've finally managed to speak to someone in HMRC, and clarified the process. I don't know if it would apply to anyone here, but here's the link with info if anyone knows someone it might help - it's for NHS staff who were seconded to train full time at university http://cmmncte.mass1.com/campaigns/54858ed97365723b9ae70700/messages/54858ed97365723b9ae90700/view_online0
