O/S Daily Thursday 8th October 2015

This is an “over the garden fence” type thread where we chat about everything Old Style and maybe a little bit more. It’s a great, inspiring and motivating thread we start each day to discuss what Old Style things we’re going to do today or what we’ve achieved already. Everyone’s welcome, please do come in, put your feet up (although check the fence hasn’t just been painted first!) and join us for an Old Style natter. The more the merrier!

As this is the Old Style Board, it would be appreciated if posts could include some Old Style content. Please be aware that many people may have small screens, or SLOW internet connections, so please don’t post large pictures, or clip art – links are preferred. When you make a post, if you feel like giving it a title, that will help others that don’t have the time to read everything skim through the thread quickly but if not it's not a problem. Please do not start a new daily thread before you go to bed at night because this often leaves things confusing with two daily threads live at the same time. The idea is that a member would start each new daily thread after they get up in the morning.

Some people who chat here like to try to answer everyone. Don’t feel you have to though, a general “hi everyone, hope everyone’s well” is fine.

Morning everyone

Birthday wishes to those celebrating a birthday, hope you have a great day x

Hugs and get well wishes to those that want/need them.

Still dark, looks damp underfoot still, but not raining – forecast is for a better day today so we’ll see. I have washing to go on the line if it’s dry.

DH up and gone to work stupid early. DS1 now getting ready for work. DS2 still in his pit but I’ll wake him shortly so he can get ready for school.

Dinner last night was beef casserole, roasties, carrots, broc, and baby sweetcorn, the casserole was packed with meat once I could actually see what was in it after it defrosted. I thought DH was going to moan as the meat all broke up when I re-heated it but it had very good flavour and he said he liked it. But he’d walked in the door and started moaning before I’d even spoken/looked at him, as “he” decided he didn’t want what sort of dinner he saw cooking on the stove. I just did what I needed to do and went quiet, he hates that and obviously it’s difficult to argue with yourself if no-one bites back! He then spent the remainder of the evening trying to be all nice and friendly – like he does when he’s overstepped the mark. It’s not acceptable the way he moans and shouts, so he got told last night in no uncertain terms, then I went quiet. I had shown him an email that he got cross about and that led to him having a major strop. I hope that the pressure will be lifted somewhat when he finishes doing his caravan job in November – it’s not loads of work all the time, but because he works long hours and I work also it’s a bit of a juggling act at times. He’s an adult and needs to get a grip as I won’t tolerate his temper tantrums and childish behaviour! Having said that he is better now than he used to be, I think the fact that I now know the best way to deal with it and also having been so overweight for so long I managed to lose my weight get my confidence back and actually don’t feel so worthless and useless – so when we go out and about I get attention and was made to feel better about me, and actually made myself realise that I didn’t actually need to be married/with him if I chose not to, as I’d be perfectly ok on my own (obviously my boys would be with me). I think the saying “you need to love yourself before anyone else can love you” is very true.

Yesterdays’ school meeting went ok, DS2 will be getting an apology today and hoping that draws a line under the matter. I’m not a 100% happy but it’s not going to do DS2 any favours by keeping dragging it on and he’s had enough as have I. We’re just going to give him maximum support to get him to the end of his exams then he knows he doesn’t have to go back there ever again.

I have a list of chores to get done today – so need to crack on with those,
hoping to have a productive day today like I had on my days’ off last week.

Keep safe and well x

    Morning All

Hopefully dry and bright here, I've stripped my bed and have another load to go out. DW emptied, salad made for lunch. I'm on the train today, DD came to borrow the car today, she has a meeting somewhere that is nearly impossible to get to by public transport. Hopefully she will come and meet me from the hospice.

Got the ironing done last night, just need to pack my case now, have to leave here at 3.30 on Saturday morning! Will try to get everything clean and tidy tonight.

TA I hope you find your ring, hopefully once you stop looking so hard it will just turn up. I once lost a diamond from my engagement ring, next time I had a bath I sat on it!
BB - Good news re your lump.
Gers - Enjoy your new car.

Off for a shower now, then must brave the cold and darkness to put the washing out! Take care. XX

    Morning all,

Did not even get chance to post yesterday as I overslept I am finding it a real struggle to get up in the mornings atm.

Looks like it might be a nice day here again its chilly though and we have put the fire on for a while this morning.

GBBO was fantastic last night and the right person won (wont say who as some of you may not have watched) also Dr Foster was brilliant, what a great series that's been.

Off to work today at the quieter site so not too stressful, cant wait till the weekend though as I am tired again.

TA hope you find your ring x

    BB great news xx

    Have good days all xx

    Good morning everyone :hello:

It's a nice and bright morning here today, hubby has gone off to work without moaning and the girls are just off to school. Me and Max are planning a nice day with lots of cuddles and a fresh bone thrown into the mix too :D.

I rang up the housing authority yesterday to complain about how we have had scaffolding up against the house for weeks now and not a workman in sight. They only need to paint the chimney as they forgot to do everyone's chimneys when they painted the houses. Anyway, result is they should be coming this morning and then dismantling the scaffolding so at least we have our front garden back. I hate complaining as I really don't want to be THAT person but I was sick of seeing it.

I have decided that we are going to have a chinese takeaway for tea so I don't have to get anything out to defrost and then tomorrow we are having giant meatballs in onion gravy with mash and veg. DD12 has food tech this morning so she has gone off with the ingredients to make a lemon drizzle tray bake. I watched GBBO yesterday and it really put me in the mood for cake. I thought all three contestants were brilliant but I am pleased that the winner was who they were (she says cryptically so as not to spoil it for anyone)

I am hoping my friend will be round today. She is dipping her toe into online dating and has had quite a few weirdos to weed out. There is someone on the horizon who appears to be lovely so I am waiting to see if I need to buy a hat :rotfl::rotfl:. I really hope she meets someone who is as lovely as she is, she deserves to be looked after for a change as she is a single mum to two teenagers with M.E. and she works really hard to make sure they are taken care of.

Well, that's all from me for now, hope your ring turns up TA, take care xx

Morning everyone - I've just woken up which is odd for me. The sun is shining but I think it's cold out.

The final teaching session went well, it was lovely to see the small group smiling at the work they were doing and managing tasks without too much input fro me, apart from the odd wobble that is.

On the way home I picked up a wee Chinese takeaway, rushed up the road in time to catch the final showstopper on GBBO. :j I'll watch the whole show today.

Tru - I was disappointed with CSI Cyber, exciting stories but just stilted and clich!-ridden dialogue. And things 'just happened' so not much narrative, hopefully it'll settle down as it goes along.

I was kept awake by a stag deer bellowing in the field outside. I even went out into the pitch black night waving a lit torch around hoping to scare him off. I didn't stay awake long though, it was just strange for the deer to be in that field as it's usually got cows in. Thankfully the bulls had stopped their bellowing.

Right, suppose I'd better get myself up. The day is mine.

I hope everyone has a good Thursday.
  • Good Morning All,

Little chilly here today but at least it is dry. Apparently the weather is picking up again so fingers crossed the heating will be staying off for another week or 2.

My washing machine broke tuesday night  :( I really can't afford the expense of a new one this side of christmas so i called Dad to see if he could fix it, No was the answer! But luckily they have a spare so that'll see me through for a little while...Phewww! Hopefully it'll be here on the weekend.

DD is with her dad this evening so i'm going to make up some left overs for tea. Thinking potato wedges with the 3 slices of bacon left and some salad, not exciting but i would rather that than have it hanging around.

Working until 4pm so after that i will be putting clothes away and changing both beds. Pooch will need a walk too and i'm hoping to go swimming this evening.

Right, i'm off for a cuppa and to get some work done.
    Have good days all x

    I lost 1 and a half pounds too :j

Decided not to compare myself with others who lost as much as five pounds last night as that would just make me feel a failure and give up. Better to realise that as I am older and am hypothyroid I will lose weight less dramatically and just keep going.

I could not get myself motivated this morning but will need to get up and dressed as dd is coming round for lunch later.

I will need to go out for ingredients to make pizza wheels after lunch as I promised to make them for middle dd tomorrow as she is going away for a few days with friends.

A friend is driving me to a flower show tonight so feel a right gadabout this week ;)

    TA

Hoping for good news for you and that the ring turns up.

    Hugs to all

    Hi all,

    Thought I,d pop in.

I had a rubbish nights sleep and ended up in DD,s room as DH was snoring like mad - he only snores if he,s had a few or has a cold, I think this is the start of the latter :o

Beds have been stripped and changed, fridge has been emptied and cleaned, house has been vacuumed and polished, washing is in the machine.

Need to wash the hard floors and do some grocery shopping, but thought I,d have a coffee first :)

Creamy veg bake tonight to use up the odds and ends, will make a loaf to go with it. I,ll make some fudge too, as we have a friend popping in tonight, who loves it and we want to ask him a favour ;)

Have a fab day all x

  • Morning, (((((((((((((((((((((hugs)))))))))))))))))) if you need one.

Boy what a show stopper on bake off.......the best person won, great.

I am determined to start baking properly again, I never used to buy things like iced buns or doughnuts. Mind you I no longer have a deep fat fryer, so not quite sure how I would cope with donuts. I think I have become lazy in my old age........

Bright morning. I am really delighted with the new washer. I set a white speed wash overnight at 60c, the two tea towels I put in have come out with no marks on what so ever and the whites are really bright. Its all out on the line.

I have given in and bought a maslin pan, OH pointed out that I would have a lot of fruit next year, and jam was a good way to store it. Boyes had one for just under £20. I rang and asked them to put it on one side so I could collect it today when we are in toen for OH to go to the heart clinic. We will then go on to Leicester for his appointment with the consultant.

We are eatingat lunchtime, rather than rushing in and starting to prep something when we get back from the hospital.

When we went to bed last night I closed the fire down, this morning it was still quite warm, so I am pretty sure overnight burning when necessary will be ok. I need to get some more coal.

    Hi everyone,

I'm another happy with the result of bake off. We had to collect DS and fiance from Heathrow and so finished watching it at 1am. I was determined not to leave it because it's so easy to see spoilers.

Hester and Elona, well done on the weightloss. I'm hypothyroid too and it really does seem to make it harder to lose. Having said that I've lost 3lbs since DD's wedding by cutting down so I'll try to keep it up.

I had a horrible day yesterday. I was going to London to be with DD at her neuro surgeon appt and when I was on the train tried to ring her only to find my phone barred. I've been having problems trying to get v-fone to change my direct debit and had spoken to them about it on Tuesday again. I had specifically checked that it wouldn't affect my service as well. The result was I ended up at the wrong hospital (whose pay phone wasn't working either) and missed the appt. On top of the upset about that (although everything was fine with DD thankfully) I wasted about £25 on fares. I'm currently on hold trying to make a complaint - I've heard their hold music so often in the last few weeks, it's so frustrating.

It's a beautiful day here and I'm having a quiet day, I hope you all have a
    good one.
