My only spare set of house keys is with my parents (who aren't particularly local). Other keys are in my desk at work.

So far, I haven't locked myself out. When I lived in a flat with a self-closing and latching door, I made it a rule that I would never go out that door without a set of keys on me - not even to answer the door or chuck the rubbish out.

Now I have a house with a new front door, it's one that doesn't lock unless you specifically put the key in and turn it.
    If it sticks, force it.
If it breaks, well it wasn't working right anyway.

My spare car key is at work (I'm a keyholder to work, so can get in even though it isn't 24hr)

But my spare housekey is in one of the kitchen drawers :)

My front door doesn't lock automatically though (although for the first two weeks of moving in I thought it did and was leaving it unlocked all day and night!!) and my partner has a key too, so I'd be mighty unlucky to get locked out!

I also always leave my balcony door open, and could climb around from my neighbours balcony...but at 9 floors up I'd have to have a really good reason to!

I don't even know where my spare car key is! Our spare house key is with OHs mom, but if we didn't have family local I'd probably leave it with a friend.
  • I've misplaced my keys once, as has another family member. We just got a loan of a battery drill and a good drill bit and drilled the lock.
Then we turned the lock, so the drilled part was on the inside. Replaced at our leisure.
The spare car keys are in the house.
