Amex points to nectar

Hello All

Can someone please help as i have got 2 different answers from Amex CS reps, basically i have got amex points on my gold card which i want to transfer to nectar points and i will be cancelling my gold card once i got the points. One CS rep told me that points will expire after 1 months when the card is cancelled. Other rep said that points will not expire till i have got once active amex card. As i have go 2 amex cards gold and platinum cashback and i will be keeping the platinum card.

So can anyone give me their valuable advise on which is actually true
thanks

I certainly don't know the answer, but why don't you send them an email, or secure message, from your account having logged in.
Then at least you'll have the response in writing, and the CS may double-check before he /she commits in writing

With American Express Membership Rewards, your Rewards points will be cancelled a month after you cancel your last card that gives Membership Rewards points (as distinct from any other type of points, or cashback, or anything else). It is usually only their charge cards that give MR points, that is to say the Green Card, Preferred Rewards Gold Card, Platinum Charge Card, and International Currency Card.

From your post it appears you only have one Membership Rewards points card and therefore your Membership Rewards account would be cancelled one month after you give up the card.

(Six months after that you would be eligible for sign-up bonuses again on the Membership Rewards cards.)

When I cancelled my last Amex PRG, I had manually transferred most of my MR out leaving a couple of hundred or so behind as I was transferring them to something that only accepted multiples of 1000 points. I rang to cancel the PRG and the person I spoke to said (unprompted by me) that it would be a waste to lose those points, so if I had a Nectar card he'd transfer them over for me, which he did there and then.

Therefore if it is the case that they can be cancelled at the same time as you close the card, why worry about keeping them for another month first?

sorry what i mean to ask was would the nectar points also expire after one month if they are not used once the amex gold is closed or will the nectar points stay on nectar card or forever till i use them eventually.

because if i get a voucher for currys for example it will expire 6 months from the date it is issued. is it same for nectar points

I had an American Express Gold charge card, took the 20k Nectar points and closed the account some months back.

I was not advised any of that, and I still have all the points.

I do have a Barclaycard American Express - but I don't think they are linked.
